The worst animated Disney film.

Plot holes aplenty. It doesn't know who it wants the main character to be. The music is awful.

Thumbs up to Josh Gad though. He was the best thing about it.

reply

Totally disagree. I thought it was excellent. The music is fantastic. Elsa is the main character, but the other characters have significant roles to play too.

reply

I kind of want to watch it again to see if I hate it the same way. I remember picking apart so many problems with the plot.

reply

Read my post about it, to get a more detailed picture. I don't see how anyone can think the songs are AWFUL, when they're so cinematic and have such interesting chord progressions and a lot of energy - they never become boring, they're never grating to the ears (heavy guitar is absent, thankfully), they have good, proper, actual melody, and some of them are shared between singers in a very neat 'interlaced way' that builds two separate consistencies that you can still follow with your ears.

What the heck would be AWFUL about that? I can't even imagine. In WHAT way do you think the MUSIC is awful? (I didn't even realize you attacked the music itself, not just the 'songs' - this could have been somewhat forgiven, for example, if you had focused on the lyrics or something).

Either you have no musical sense, or you had some faulty copy that doesn't play the music properly - these musics are cinematic and sublime.

My post fully acknowledges the misandry, the nonsensical plot, the really badly written elements, things that do not make sense even according to the rules of the movie itself, and so on.

SPOILERS:

Also, the bad 'villain twist' is just really, really stupid, and comes out of nowhere, since we've already seen the 'bad guy' 'sigh romantically while gazing lovingly' after meeting her. He can't go from THAT to suddenly being completely.. pardon the pun,COLD towards her.

But hey, at least the animals don't really talk here.

There are many GOOD points after you have almost boiled your brain by noticing so many bad ones; just let yourself relax and enjoy the scenery and animation, and maybe you will feel the heart of the movie, which really keeps it afloat despite its stupidities. I kinda liked the non-usual 'true love' twist at the end, as lesbianic and misandristic it might be, at least it is something different.

When a Disney movie (of all things) avoids a typical Disney-cliché, you have to respect it.

reply

The problem with the music, is that there's no real heart to the songs. As a matter of fact, Disney movies almost always have pop songs. They don't branch out and do anything different. This isn't the type of music that you play in your car and feel the same way you would about another pop songs.

reply

I disagree. But you won’t care why so I won’t bother

reply

Go ahead. I've never had a problem with anyone disagreeing with me.

reply

Not sure the music is really designed to play in your car. lt's a kids film, the songs are supposed to appeal to five year olds.

reply

No, but they could at least make them catchy.

reply

It’s pretty overrated, but it’s serviceable.

reply

My daughter loved it, and lets face it, she's the main demographic for this.

reply

Yes, I can understand a child liking this. But there's something so sub-intellect about it compared to other Disney films which could be enjoyed by all age groups.

reply

But parents have to sit through it.

reply

What makes them sit? You can stand through it.

In any case, if you can stand the stupidities, you can actually enjoy the movie. Why not, instead of focusing SOLELY on the bad sides, just enjoy the visuals, musics, animation and in the process, start feeling the movie's heart? It's not a perfect movie, but it has a lot of worthy things to admire, so I disagree about 'have to sit through it', as if it's just 100% torture.

It isn't, but it's all up to YOU to change your attitude about it, whether you are able to enjoy it or not.

This is not a bad movie, so it doesn't deserve you completely disregarding its good sides. If you were watching an ACTUAL bad movie, THEN I would agree about the 'sit through' part.

But what creates any obligation for a parent to sit through anything? Just pop the movie on your unnecessarily large television screen and go fix dinner or practice yoga or something, while keeping eye on your kid. You don't have to be 100% focused on exactly the same thing the kid is focused in - you can do other things while paying attention to what's going on with your kid.

Better yet - don't have kids in this kind of a world, and then you're free to just choose and enjoy. It could be this is not the movie for you, perhaps you lack the ability to enjoy it.

But that's YOUR fault, not the movie's.

reply

I was talking about watching this in theatres. When they paid their ticket the parents had to sit through this trash. But even at home kids ask their parents to watch films with them.

The thing about these Disney movies is that its major flaws get a pass because they're considered so gosh darn lovable.

reply

Exactly !

reply

That was a few years ago. She’s nearly 10 now and it’s all Stranger Things and Dr. Who, lol.

reply

I found that thing that looks like a blob of toothpaste and never shuts up extremely irritating.

reply

Frozen was much better than Home on the Range and Treasure Planet.

reply

You don’t even have to sink that low. Imo it’s miles better than anything in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

reply

It's definitely boring and unimaginative. It's not worse than something like Home On The Range or Brother Bear.

reply

And the music is awful.

reply

I have not watched it because I was and am SO sick of seeing it everywhere! Constant ads on TV, merchandise EVERYWHERE. It felt like this was the most heavily merchandised movie ever. Anyway, I was so sick of it that by the time it was in theaters, I already had enough of it. People still tell me I should watch it but when I think about it I am instantly annoyed, lol.

reply

I got sick of seeing adult women dressed up as princesses from the movie. And that "Let it Go" song is one of the most annoying and generic songs I've ever heard.

reply

"I got sick of seeing adult women dressed up as princesses from the movie" Lol, yeah, I'd pass on that! 😂

Oh Lord... don't even get me started on THAT song. Ugh. I'd rather listen to Yoko Ono's shrieking.

reply

Chuck Berry's face at 1:50.

reply

I know! Lol. If you watch the whole uncut video it's hilarious because of his reaction and the fact that someone turned her mic off without her knowing after the first song.

reply

Well knock yourself out then. Enjoy!

reply

It's certainly up there as one of the worst.
The music is just ok.
I hate it even more than I should because it was overhyped as fuck, with every single little girl not knowing any better and their dumb parents too.

reply

Hey there Heisenberg, maybe you could post a link to the better film (than Frozen) that you made, and then perhaps l will listen to your criticism of someone else's efforts.

reply

Sure moron.
I think you just wrote THE stupidest post on MC.

Let me quote it here for future reference before you delete it:
"Hey there Heisenberg, maybe you could post a link to the better film (than Frozen) that you made, and then perhaps l will listen to your criticism of someone else's efforts."

reply

Not deleting

I thought it was a reasonable question as your criticism of this movie wasn't constructive.
The movie is designed for kids aged under 8 years old.

Just reviewing it as "rubbish" doesn't really say anything. Obviously you're older than the target audience so if you're going to review the movie you need to do it for the target audience.

(Most of whom seemed to have loved the movie)

reply

Trying to double down?
Nah, the first one is still the stupidest thing ever written here.
No need to explain it.

reply

Don't you love the anonymity of the internet, you can call someone a moron and you've absolutely no idea who you might be talking to.

reply

That is true!
Except for the times it actually IS a moron.

reply

Well, at least one of us is civil.

You still haven't substantiated your profanity filled review of the movie, l quote "overhyped as fu**"
Dumb parents (for taking their kids to see it?)
And what are your credentials.
Are you a movie maker? Let's hear your ideas for how it should have been done so it wasn't "one of the worst movies"

Some of us might have spent six years of their lives working on Frozen/Frozen 2.

reply

Well, you can stand your high ground on that.

reply

Ok,
under this perspective your original reply is not stupid.
But without this info it is difficult to understand that.

I wrote that it's one of the worst DISNEY movies.
It feels derivative, gimmicky, uninspired and unbalanced.
I found the characters unlikable and annoying, the story was forced and often unexplicable, the general feel of the whole film smells of a commercial operation where every creative and artistic decision was based on some market research rather than by true inspiration.
But this would just make it mediocre.
What really offended me was the unbearable praising and pushing this barely ok movie got. I watched it expecting something like BatB or TLK or even Aladdin. It's not even close to the Disney Renaissance, nor to the Classics. It felt like a direct to video sequels for Cinderella. I was very underwhelmed.
