What about making a noir version

I grew up with the original two films, and the animated show (which had more of an ominous vibe than the films, as I remember), and even enjoyed the third. They were fun.
I haven’t had a chance to get into the original comic book series, but apparently the source material differs greatly in tone from the films.

I would love to see a truly dark, visceral, psychologically distressing, manageably realistic cinematic take on this universe of characters.

Maybe it will happen twenty years from now.

IDK...that sounds very risky. And nowadays in this age of movie franchises production studios hate taking risks more than ever before.

reply

Ain’t that the truth, and also such a shame.

Everything in cycles. Risky, original ideas will come back in fashion.

reply

I don't know if the cycle turning around will happen in our lifetime. Corporate culture is just so strong...

They like money, so they will follow that. A lot of sequals and remakes are getting poor numbers, so it makes sense to start looking for new ideas, just for financial reasons.

That's a good idea!!!

XFiles (1998)?

But yeah a serious MiB movie could be a way to reboot the franchise..

Another way would be to do a film set in the 50s or 60s (either 'dark' or set in the same MiBverse)... actually why didn't they just do that for MiB4 set in the beginnings of MiB or even set in the 60s or 70s with Brolin again? (who could be teamed up with Valkyrie whose about then) Surely that would've been a better bet than trying to remake Thor Ragnarok as MiB? (which was as weird as any MiB situation)

Totally agree with this post.
Now I’m gonna have to go rewatch some X-Files

"manageably realistic". Oh boy, it's already dead in the water. No one wants grimdark after BVS. Not saying it's uninteresting. But as the other posts replied, studios aren't feeling like taking big risks anymore.
