The ending???
Everyone seems to think the whole time she was transforming into a zombie. Until reading some reviews I thought BJ was an incubus and Sam was actually transforming into a Succubus. Surely that would've made more sense?

shareHow would it have made more sense than a zombie? Forgive me, I'm not familiar with that lore.
___"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Except for trolls."____
Because the male wasn't infected? The determination of Sams health. "An inccubus, according to a number of mythological and legendary traditions, lies upon sleepers, especially women, in order to have sexual intercourse with them."
No, he was a carrier or was infected and didn't show any symptoms. The corpse he had sex with was contaminated with something, so she became a zombie after he roofied and raped her.
I think the whole point of them having it spread via sexual contact and treating it like an STD is because a lot of the time a person can be infected and not show any symptoms, which is what likely happened to BJ.
Blood is thicker than water and much tastier!
The corpse he had sex with was contaminated with something, so she became a zombie after he roofied and raped her.
I assumed that the corpse in the beginning was Samantha and that was a foreshadowing of what was going to happen to her...
shareIt took 3 days for her to become totally infected, who's to say he didn't start to show signs soon after.
fact: 87.3% of IMDB users belong to the secret society of cynics.
...because we saw him again on Day 3 and he was completely fine, picking up chicks, and generally enjoying not being a zombie.
shareThe guy at the restaurant is not BJ. It's supposed to be Sam's illusion. Alice told her the police already caught him on the phone while Sam was waiting at the doctor's.
shareOh, good call, just rewatched that scene and you're right.
Then what was the purpose of that scene? To show how Sam was looking for answers or just that she was going crazy? I feel like it was meant to be way more significant than what I'm seeing. If she was going crazy, you'd expect her to be seeing "BJ" more than just the once, and if it was her mind playing tricks on her because of her desire to actively seek out answers (and a cure), you'd expect the same. There was nothing at all in the rest of her movie about her seeking out a cure at all, really. Kinda silly. Just don't see the point of that scene.
But then again, this whole movie was pretty pointless, so maybe I'm looking too far into it.
I feel like the filmmakers just wanted to make sure the audience discover the tattoo on his finger like, "Hey isn't it a cool idea to have BJ, who is the source of the infection, have that word "Abaddon" on his finger?", hence the focus is on his finger in both scenes (test tube washing scene and this one).
I didn't know what Abaddon is, so looked it up on Wiki and it says that it appears as an angel in the shape of a horse wearing a gold crown on its head with wings and the scorpion's tail who leads a flock of locusts and gives people 5 months suffering that doesn't even allow them to die. I found it quite fascinating. Of course this scene also shows us Sam is losing her mind.
That scene was about her starting to see her rapist/murderer in all men. She blamed everyone but herself for everything going wrong in her life which the movie made clear was her problem all along. She was a super needy personality always turning to something to make her feel good about herself with no real self esteem or moral strength. That was why the mom acted the way she did, she was willing to assume that role and treat her like the child she wanted to be. That was why she stayed with her mom in spite of the drama because she was to weak to stand on her own and she knew it. That was why she kept bothering Nikki when it was clear Nikki was no longer interested. That was why she caved in to Alice and drank when she had been told she couldn't drink ( a fairly clear sign that alcoholism had been a problem in the past as well as drug use.) That was why she tried to get Nikki to have sex with her when the doctor told her clearly it was an STD. That was why she let George talk her into coming into work when she was on her way to the doctor because then anything that happened was his fault not hers. That was why she accosted Alice after she killed Nikki and tried to get her to have sex with her to prove she was still wanted and desirable and also the reason she came onto the dude who was nice to her. She was a classic dependant personality. The only thing in the whole movie that wasn't her fault was the roofie assisted rape. Even the rare orchid died because she didn't take care of it.
Succubi are supposed to be seductive - she was rotting inside and out!
"Passion is just insanity in a cashmere sweater!"
LoL, why is everyone assuming he had sex with the corpse? Did you see him on top? The legs of the corpse weren't even open wide. I think it's more likely he just shoved the tube in and out he corpse
shareUh yeah...he totally had sex with the corpse. What other reason would there be for that scene in the morgue? Why would he shove a tube in and out of a corpse? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Granted, *beep* a corpse sounds pretty dumb, but that's actually a thing. Shoving tubes in and out of corpses isn't...
shareHe didn't have intercourse with the corpse that is given like you asked about the corpses legs and his body not being visible on top. If he had intercourse then there would be traces of foul play. It's obvious that he was getting a bj from the corpse, hence why he went by the nickname BJ lol.
What I find amusing is that on his finger, while he was washing the tube with his spunk in it, was tattooed the word Abaddon. Which is known as destroyer... of course Abaddon changes in different beliefs it is either a knight/angel of destruction and in others it is known as an abyss and part of hell. No matter it is meant as dead...damned. So I'm thinking that is to tie in that he's either this angel to destroy life or he's just some crazy cult follower thinking he really is this entity. I'm going to go with the latter since Alice had told Samantha that the police was looking for anyone in contact with BJ, which led me to believe he already went through the final stages of his transformation. Anyway, this movie left more questions than anything else lol.
Good points about the BJ character, and especially pointing out he probably went through final stages of transformation, hence why he was missing--although I am not sure I agree about the bj theory. There was never really a tie up on that character to show what happened to him afterwards, just the vague "police are looking for him" story.
I agree there were a lot more questions that should have been answered but a lot of films these days leave vague story lines hanging supposedly for the viewer to finish up as they choose in their own minds but some of it is just laziness in not completing the story lines or completely fleshing them out in my opinion.
You say laziness on the part of the writers...
...I say it's stupidity on the part of the viewers who can't make logical assumptions about the movie.
BJ had sex with the corpse.
That's how he got the virus.
He gave it to Sam the same night before he had any signs.
Odds are he either became a zombie too...or, if you have a vivid imagination, is just a carrier. Either way, it's not the story of the movie - Sam is. Movies aren't required to tie up ALL lose ends on a movie because there are dumb internet people out there.
X
I don't think he had went through any transformation because after Sam goes and gets drugs and argues with Alice she goes to the bar. I believe it was BJ who tosses money on the bar and walks out with a woman, and Sam gets up and runs outside, but they're gone. Unless I missed something.
shareI watched that scene again (ugh) and I think he was finger banging the corpse. He was rinsing his finger into the tube. He knew she was infected with something, with what and how did he know?? It is a huge plot hole. Also, Alice mentions that the guy was caught and that the police wanted to know who was at the party.
The part that bugged me was that the doctor who treated Sam didn't anything except say "Don't come in contact with anyone until we know what this is" seriously, that is so negligent.
I got the impression he fingered the corpse too.
shareProbably to lube for actual penile penetration. How do you finger something so hard that it rocks that much? That was a bodily weight moving the table.
shareI could be wrong, but I kind of got the impression that the police knew BJ was contagious, that's why they wanted to question anyone who came in contact with him. I think the "child molester" thing was just a cover up to stop wide spread panic.
share"When the corpse is a'rockin, don't come a'knockin"
shareI think it's pretty heavily implied that he had sex with the corpse. I'm guessing you all missed the hazard symbol on the toe tag of the corpse...
The reason for the tube washing being that he likely could not release in the corpse because that would be leaving evidence of his misdeeds. He likely pulled out and kinda...shot into the tube.
I think the tube was just a really big plot hole (one if many) that didn't get sorted out.
I rather like the incubus idea because Bj I assumed when we're told he was caught by the police still looked...not dead/zombie-like. I don't know, they could have explained things a little more (mainly that first scene) but maybe more so about Bj himself.
SPOILERS
I figured that was what was going on from the poster art, but the kicker was Alice. When Riley discovers Alice in the bathtub after he runs into the bathroom, Alice's eyes are open and moving, so Sam's bite transformed her. Standard zombie movie protocol.
Ummmmm... what? Her eyes may have been open, but they were certainly not moving, and she was definitely dead. Did we watch the same movie?
Here, I even captured a GIF of that exact scene. Go ahead and tell me you see her eyes moving. She is clearly dead: http://gfycat.com/FeistySharpIndianspinyloach
Sorry for the *beep* quality, but I wanted to keep it HD, so you could actually see her eyes.
That would've been more original. Can't wait for a succubus film!
shareThe funny thing is that the Japanese title of this film is "3 Days Body - For 3 Days Until She Becomes a Zombie", so as a Japanese, I knew she would turn into a zombie from the beginning.
