... kind of a douchebag for leaving Rose on her own?

He was going to stay, it was Rose who said to him "There is still time" basically saying go as she was where she needed to be and he should go to where he is needed, so sad this film is :-(

reply

No. He knew Rose was content with her father. If she had wanted him to stay I'm sure he would have.

reply

Not at all. She wanted him to go, to be alone with her Father during their final hours. He needed to be with his "Girlfriend", mentally. I guess it's kind of his way of growing up in the end. I personally couldn't have just left her there, but than again, I never would have left my pregnant Girlfriend in the first place.

i'm surprised that i DIDN'T think he was a jerk for leaving Rose. James went far and above what most people would have done for Rose (or for most people/strangers). i actually love that James (just like Rose and her dad) chose to be with who he wanted to be with when the end came. both Rose & James were happy (all things considered) and were with people who they loved. if James had stayed just to be nice to Rose, yes Rose would have died happy but James would not have. he deserved to die happy too.

don't get me wrong, the idea of Rose dying basically alone (no living person near her) is completely terrifying/heartbreaking to me.

reply

dont worry body, we all die alone no matter what

I've had to translate this to get your point:

I would have thrown dear old dad in the trunk of the taxi and taken them both with me to my girlfriend. She should've been my chick from the beginning, instead of the doped-up selfish b*tch!

Well, sir, the film isn't about what you would have done.

I'm so very glad you weren't the director. 😂

Did he say that's what the film was about?

I could not leave Rose, I would ask her to come with me and I would suggest to put her dad in a trunk so at the end we could all be together with Zoe. But if she wouldn't go for it I would stay with her. That scene when she said I will look at You until I can't see You any more and than she run behind the car that was heartbreaking for me.
