Stan Lee said, that his intention when creating Spider-Man was to have a teenage superhero who was not a sidekick and was not mentored by adult heroes. Doesn't this movie contradict that by making Peter Tony Stark's sidekick of sorts and by making Stark his mentor?
Well, they had to have someone from the MCU in it to let people know it's an MCU movie. Also it's slightly based off the Ultimate Universe where other heroes protected Peter under Nick Fury's command.
Actually, Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe was not mentored by other heroes, either. In the Ultimate Team-Up miniseries, he went to ask for an advice couple of heroes, but most of them told him to leave this job alone because he's too young.
ACTUALLY, in the Ultimate Universe, Peter came up on SHIELDS radar and was actively mentored by several of the Ultimates, most importantly Captain America who wanted to shut him down due to his youth and inexperience. Miles Morales also had regular involvement with Spider-Woman and SHIELD.
Actually, no, SHIELD did not mentor him. Nick Fury told Pete that, when he turns 18, he will have to join SHIELD, or he will put him in prison. He kept tags on him, but he was nobody's sidekick.
I seem to remember a fairly deep arc where he was being evaluated by the Ultimates and where Captain America even gave the thumbs down to him continuing as spider-Man at his age.
You are correct. I've read through the entire run of every Ultimate title, and through the entire Ultimate Spider-Man run twice. S.H.I.E.L.D. was involved in Peter's life almost from the get-go, and the Ultimates (that's what the Avengers are called in that universe) were tasked with keeping him alive and out of trouble. Captain America was the team member least sold on Peter's readiness, and wanted to have him kept away from any superhero activity until he was grown up.
More to the original point, I see the two MCU films as the perfect cinematic embodiment of the Lee/Ditko hero, with a nice mix of the modernized elements of the Ultimate series, which in my opinion are the two best arcs the hero has seen in his near-60-year history.
And how many decades has it been since then? How many different versions of Spider-Man - and multiverses - have we’ve gotten in the comics and animated shows (now the big screen) all these years later? Answer: a lot. The same goes for almost any comic book character in existence — you know u know this. Doing something different... in this case, they’re doing something slightly different... after so many years to keep things interesting and new only makes sense to me, especially if it works for the movies (and usually it does for the MCU). You think Stan wouldn’t welcome change? That’s right.
Speaking of defeating the point of a superhero, didn’t Batman killing bad guys in BVS defeat the point of Batman? Oh that’s right, that Batman came from the Frank Miller world. A new spin on Batman. But Spider-Man? Nope, it’s different when cinematic Spidey takes elements from any notable Spidey comics that came long after the old days otherwise... what’s the point? Alrighty then.
FYI... Stan Lee proudly said that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was exactly like he envisioned Spider-Man to be. In fact, this is one of his quotes regarding Holland... “It's as if we created a living being to be Spider-Man and it turned out to be Tom.” You can come up with any “theories” as to why he said that, but the man himself gave the biggest praise to MCU Spidey, so... that’s that. Can’t wait to see Fury and Spider-Man working together in the sequel.
PS. Everyone... this NewRedundant tool is just another anti-MCU troll. I see he came from good ol’ IMDb where he (surprise! Surprise!) would rant nonstop about the MCU. Now he’s back to his old tricks again. But for all you know, he’s probably been one of the many (more obvious) anti-MCU trolls on this site with another account. It’s what they do. As such, there is no use humoring him with our responses since he won’t hear of it. His sole purpose here is to join his crazed DC/DCEU trolls and blast the MCU. Fuck him.
You are one of the stupid fanatics which welcomes any destruction of given heroes. Spiderman is a joke in this movie. He is a dumb kid without any superpowers at all. And saimply a sidekick of Iron Man like SuperDog was Supermans dog during the 1960s!
This "Spiderman" is simply laughable and a complete waste of the novel. And Stan Lees statements are meaningless, cause he has to defend each and every MCU movie. Thats part of his contract (never wondered why Mark Hamill attacked the TLJ desaster first and then became a nice doggy? Same reason).
Robbie, Connors, Stacy were more like father figures to Peter. They did not even know he was Spider-Man. Well, except for Stacy, who figured it out before dying. No one was making high-tech suits for him and giving him golden opportunities. Peter earned everything in his life by himself.
I know people really like to dismiss Lieber's contribution to the creation of the many Marvel characters, and in some cases they have a point, but in this case you are the one who is severely mistaken. First, Stan Lee came up with everything about Spider-Man. From the name, to powers, to origin. Ditok visualized his ideas, but he did not create them himself. It was Stan who wanted to make an ordinary kid into a superhero. Second, Jack Kirby had absolutely nothing to do with Spider-Man. In fact, there are barely any drawings of Spider-Man done by him.
