The absurdity of the mental hospital scenes

For as much as I enjoy the show the whole mental hospital thing was just beyond silly. The show certainly takes some liberties with certain situations but the the writers really went full who gives a *beep* mode with this one.

There's no way in hell Bunchy would be able to just walk right into her room like that in real life. I've visited someone at a place like that once and there's a seperate visitation room. Those places are secure for obvious reasons and as a visitor you don't get to roam as you please. There's no way in hell he would be able to get a wheelchair and take her out of the facility either. That whole scenario was absurd and showed how little respect the writers have for the viewers. Also, if her room would not have had drapes and a lamp with a cord especially if she is suicidal. Ridiculous.

I don't know how the writers will be able to bring the show back down to "reality" anytime soon. Clearly there needs to be a new direction in the writing.

That's an interesting analysis. I also thought that the "asylum" didn't really look like one. It looked like a small hospital with unbelievably lax security. It also confused me how he rolled her out willy nilly, no problems. It wasn't just this scene, there are many scenes in RD that appear fake and/or the production team became sloppy.

OP stop talking out of your ass. Yes in fact friends and family CAN visit people in the nut hatch like that. It isn't a prison. You have no idea what you are talking about.

It depends on the facility. I've visited people in both situations. In one facility, I was able to sit in my friend's room and we played games, watched TV, and went for a walk without a problem. Years later, when I went to visit a friend's daughter in another facility, it was more as the OP describes. There was a large, comfortable, open room with couches, tables, a TV, etc... where you could sit with the person you were visiting. Family and friends weren't allowed in patients' rooms.

Well, that's another thing. She was committed by her brother, without the consent of her husband. How did that happen?

reply

You can voluntarily commit yourself.

that's mean, what did he ever do to you

Also keep in mind she has a history at that facility. Her brother called it her second home and rattled off half a dozen occasions she stayed there.

I don't care how realistic it was or wasn't, I found the scene between Bunchy and her wife touching.

If I don't reply, you're probably on my ignore list for something I forgot already

My mom was in a place just like that when I was a kid for extreme depression. We went to visit her, and it was just the same as depicted on the show. I think what you are speaking of is in extreme situations or out of your own ignorance.

*beep* there is not one mental health facility that allows patients to hang out in the waiting room. I dated a chick for over 2 years that was diagnosed bipolar so I have plenty of knowledge on the subject. She ended up in a hospital behavioral health wing after a pill suicide attempt and there was a visiting area only. Maybe in a facility that is strictly dedicated to the mentally ill the patients can have people in their rooms but that's not what I experienced at the hospital.

Bunchy snuck her out. Name a facility that is going to let patients be freely wheeled out without consent from a doctor. She was there for suicidal threats. A doctor decides when the patient can be discharged not the family. It doesn't matter who had her submitted. Bunchy can't just walk in and take her out like that. Also she would have at least been given medication and been coherent or else why is she there?

Lastly, the epsiode this past Sunday was excellent and made up for the laziness in writing of the last episode.

reply

OP - you're talking out your ass.

reply

It depends on the facility. They aren't all the same.
