Cara Delevingne Acting Skills

ruined this movie for me, she just cant act...its as simple as that.

I think this may be part of the problem with the success of the film.

I find her slightly annoying and have no interest seeing her on the big screen. It won't keep me from a film she is in but I certainly won't be running.

I'm perplexed by her presence in so many movies, which must mean that casting directors are either forced by the studio or are payed directly by Cara's handlers in the form of money or Cara's sexual services. Either way, she has no box office champion under her belt but continues to get leading roles as well as high profile supporting roles.

On the flipside, an equally poor actor Taylor Lautner seems to have been blackballed by Hollywood due to one movie where he was cast as the main character but the movie flopped. I actually caught this film on a plane flight and found the movie overall poorly directed, edited, and poorly written so no matter who you cast this film was destined to fail, but it wasn't just because of Taylor.

i think you might be right, good explanation

Really? Must be me. I would have thought that the three quarters of a billion dollars Suicide Squad earned would be considered a "box office champion."

I guess a billion ain't worth what it used to be.

Since she wasn't even a secondary character but more of a supporting cast member in Suicide Squad I'd say your example is really reaching there.

reply

Box office is box office. As to supporting character, it's seldom that the main villain of a piece is considered "supporting."

LOL @ "the main villain"

K. if she wasn't then who was?

She was alright, and for someone who "can't act" I found her American accent entirely convincing and didn't realize she was British until I googled her. The guy playing her partner seemed pretty young to be a high ranking "Major" and top agent for the military.

I thought both characters were poorly written, however. The way they were introduced, you'd assume they were married or at least long time lovers.

She doesn't have to act, though I think that she can. She has presence. She is what the industry wants. She is a Movie Star.

reply

I enjoy her in Paper Towns and Valerian..the only two I remember seeing her in. She is beautiful...meow.

reply

In the comics, they're not military, they're more like space feds. Well, time-and-space feds. And after all, Valerian has been on the force for nine years. Nine years of action certainly should make him a major.

"American accent entirely convincing"

To me, the only thing that I found was "convincing" about "her" American accent was that I am almost 99% convinced that her voice was dubbed (it is very obvious in the copy that I watched).

reply

She don't need acting skills... she has eyebrows! The best and biggest and thickest in Hollywood!

reply

I thought she did well in the role. It may be more a case of good casting rather than a skilled performance - only time will tell. But she seemed comfortable on screen and when you think of other non-actor performances that's pretty good.

reply

Having seen her in "Suicide Squad" I went into the theater with low expectations, to put it politely... and wasn't disappointed. However, I was surprised that the boy who played the male lead was even worse!

Neither of them can play a badass, through the whole film you expect to see all those tough military guys tell them to go home and let the adults deal with the difficult stuff, instead, they're all deferential to those skinny dweebs and it was never believable.

Although, actors obviously need to have SOME acting skills to get to THIS level, I still hold ALL FINAL PRODUCTION qualities to the DIRECTOR. That is the position that is supposed to CONTROL the actors, to extract the proper type of acting out of said actor and fix it if it is NOT working.... while it is being shot.

But, I think we are all over thinking this film. Was probably supposed to be this fun romp aimed at 12 year olds, but served to us as the next big star wars serious awesome movie.
Still, all the directors fault.... UNLESS the studio recuts or demands changes in it that are outside the director. But I've never heard of a STUDIO stepping in and instructing actors how to do a scene. UNLESS it is via replacing the director altogether.

Maybe Cara does stink. I haven't seen her enough. Still, there is a DIRECTOR always behind her LETTING her stink.

(edit: but, yeah, this movie was a complete POS waste of time)

To be honest I didnt think her acting in this movie was too bad.

But that was because I was comparing this to her acting skills in Suicide Squad which is seriously some of the worst I have ever seen.

Her acting in this is much improved compared to that
