Dane DeHaan Miscast As Valerian?

Just saw the trailer. This is the first time I've heard of this IP. In the comics/graphic novels, is Valerian supposed to be an adult male? Dane as Valerian looks like a young teenager, a kid. He looks way younger than Cara, making it look more like a relationship between a high school teacher and one of her students. When I watch this, I'll have trouble accepting Dane as a mature adult man, if that's what Valerian is supposed to be.

For many years I've been a fan of Valerian comics and did like both main actors. And that is despite Cara's lack of acting skills and the movie in general being so-so.

Yeah, both the leads were totally miscast, and that was the ONLY thing that kept this movie from bring totally awesome. It's clever, it's original, it's way cool, it's fun, and it looked wonderful. It was even touching in places.

But since the heroes were written as badasses, but played by actors who looked like teenagers with hangovers... the movie did not live up to its potential.

PS: when I saw it in the theater, the audience all laughed at the scene where the spindly Laureline pins down a grown man and punched him out.

reply

Agreed, just woefully miscast and thoroughly out of his depth here. The scene where he muscles around Clive Owen made me LOL.

reply

Indeed.
