I don't know about you guys...

but I thought this was a masterpiece. I'm not a JGL fanboy, though I am a fan of his work (TDKR, Inception, 50/50, etc.), but I am completely enamored with this film. Everything about it to me is great; from the expert shooting, to the magnificent directing, to the outstanding editing (I've run out of synonyms), and those are only the technical aspects of the film.
I've been reading the posts on this board and I can't seem to understand why people dislike the film so much. None of the points made are valid; like why she gets mad at him for watching porn, or how he started a relationship with Esther, to even how "graphic" it was.
A lot of people probably expected it to be bad and let that fog their view on it, when in reality (in my opinion) it was a masterful first effort by one of Hollywood's greatest talents.

this movie was pretty amazing. It was hilarious but it had a deeper message that people give it credit for.
it had funny characters and in a way it was a brutal look into people's perceptions of porn and sex. and about how men and women objectify each other. It used comedy to talk about a serious subject, like porn addiction, about how men objectify women. and about how sometimes women can be unfair with men as well

makes you wonder why so many girls have a problem with the movie,

There aren't too many 'masterpieces' floating around. Sorry, not even Spielberg comes to mind when I think of that word. But, still, this was an excellent movie. Not just for 'a first effort.' Just excellent all around.

I will probably find this comparison somewhere in the discussion, but it's as if JGL climbed into the head of one of the 'Jersey Shore' characters and decided there was a real person there and he didn't have to dumb down the story about that.

I loved it. I wanted to hate it (thought Moore was going to be a casting mistake but she was great).

I too was blown away with the story and directing, made me think of Woody Allen back in the 1970's , so honest and human . Joseph Gordon-Levitt I would like to shake your hand and say well done can I work with you because you know what your doing , and that's what it's all about. I look foreward to his future productions .

reply

Yep, I'm here simply to express my appreciation for this film...totally refreshing and absolutely loved it!

I really enjoyed this film too, OP. As to why it's fairly disliked, I'd say it's because the film attracted a lot of sleazy/shallow people (see: the basic plot + ScarJo in skimpy clothes). And the sleazy/shallow people don't want to see the hero of the story end up with an aging ginger (her good heart be damned).

I thought the movie was a little masterpiece. I remember when JGL was still the little kid in 3rd Rock from the Sun and in between sort of lost track of him and now he not only acts enormously well, but writes and directs wonderful movies ... he has come a long way and is surely headed for better things ...

reply

Well it's a mockery, a farce, if you took any of it seriously, you're a dumbass.....or you're 14.

Oh what a day. What a lovely day!

I thought the movie was nice enough, but no way would I want to watch it again. I was impressed though when I saw the end credits that Joseph had written & directed it himself. Quite an accomplishment in that regard considering he also starred in the movie.

No, I did not think this film was a masterpiece. Matter of fact, it's been forgotten for some time now. No one cares about it and no one discusses it but a few twinkle toes like yourself who posts on a thread that you think this was a masterpiece. It's an OK film. That's it. Move along...

reply

Bruh, you're telling me to move along on a post that's around two years old? What are you even doing?
