Funny thing is he kinda was a Batman ripoff in the books.
I always saw comic Oliver as a light hearted Bruce Wayne

Yes, they went full Batman in the relaunch of the Mike Grell years. Arguably did a better job of it too. This show is pretty much adapted from that.

I haven't read those books yet. In his early days he was still bats only light hearted

To me this show always felt like they were trying to make a TV version of the Dark Knight trilogy, just using the Green Arrow character since DC didn't want to do a Batman series.

Actually from what I heard is CW did want to do Batman but DC refused to give them the rights, so that’s why they used Oliver Queen as Batman.

I’ve never read the comics but from what I read on Wikipedia about Oliver Queen is that he is more like the MCU version of Tony Stark

It’s quite silly DC did give CW the rights for SuperMan but not Batman.

Yeah it's like Batman is some kind of 'sacred cow' when it comes to live-action television.

Yeah but here he is ripping off villains and other characters from Batman. Also Ollie never used the gruff voice in the early comics anyway. Hear it is often used as a joke that he talks that way.
