Why was this made

Why was this made. In 3 months everyone will forget this existed. So what's the point?

reply

I am hoping to be able to forget it much much sooner than that.

Maybe you didn't like it because you never were taught how to look at a film critically. I was fortunate to learn about movie making in LA by a neighbor that was a film producer. I went to several private, pre-release screenings to gauge reaction and comment. My friend and I spent hours talking about film making. He is still very active in Hollywood so I won't mention any names. Overall, learning from him gave me the structure to pull bias out of my opinion and look at the work as objectively as possible.

3 Days to Kill is a multi-layered story with broad themes. It's not for everyone but that's true of most things. It is an A movie with poor marketing and snide reviewers.

lol the "you're not a critic with training" argument.
Anyone who ever watched a movie and had an opinion on it is a critic.
I mean for all we know your neighbour produced troma style or no budget films or maybe even low grade porn.

Being a producer shows you know how to finance a movie not how to be an educated critic. Just look at all the *beep* films in the world, they all had producers. If producers had any value in evaluating a films worth, every movie ever made would be a classic.
To be able to critique a movie all you need is at least one working eye ball, one working ear and half a brain.

It's that whole bull shot "I think a movie is an A, so it's an A" you're not right, they're not right, you're subjective, we all are.

Hell if I go drop $1000 to finance a indie film it makes me a producer, does that mean I am automatically an expert on films and taste?

imdb, once for discussing movies, now a facebook substitute. Off topic and all drama.

I will remember this movie for a long time... as one of the worst of the last few years.

This movie was okay for entertainment but nothing more. McG is a hack. I'm sure they thought this film would be like what Taken did to Liam Nielson's career, but this is nowhere close.

One of the most forgettable action films of recent memory.

Such a waist of time - Poor acting and bad bad bad story line. That scene in the elevator with the " wonder drug" is just sooooo bad. I cryed a little....

Because I had 2 Hours to Kill (and I wish I could get them back!)

I can't remember the last time I commented on this site. I just watched this on netflix & had never heard of it, so I came on here to find out a little more about it. I've got to say, I do not understand the reason for all of the negative comments.

Someone mentioned that this site used to be about discussing movies and now it's all just mindless drivel and, in a sense, I agree. While everyone will have their opinions, it seems to me that, if you're going to bother to comment, why not explain you opinion.

The movie sucks? It won't be remembered in 3 months? Why?

Whoever said that this wasn't Casablanca was right. It's also not the Godfather, Chinatown, Lawrence of Arabia, Citizen Kane, ... or Bull Durham. That shouldn't be the point, though.

Kevin Costner has never claimed to be, nor has he been praised as being, Lawrence Olivier. He is, however, a very likeable actor who, when he is in his wheelhouse, is very entertaining. I agree with the comment that the rest of the cast was also very well cast.

The script was fine. Spy stories are meant to be neither Shakespeare or true to life. They are expected to be internally logical and consistent, ... to some extent. This one was. It added a real human drama and numerous tongue-in-cheek bits of humour. The dialogue was, especially relatively speaking, very well done.

Is this a movie that I would buy and watch as many times as I've seen the Godfather? No. Will I recommend it to friends as a solid, entertaining movie which is better than 90% of the dross out there? Absolutely. I will probably even watch it again, from time-to-time.

Lighten up a bit, all you Francis's out there.
