What the hell did I just watch?
I have no idea what this movie was about, why it had some decent actors in it, or if there was an underlying meaning I missed. It wasn't' a comedy, it wasn't a thriller, and it wasn't a drama.
shareI think the appropriate description is, like all great art, its purpose is to evoke a sensation in the viewer.
As you said it yourself, what the hell did I just watch? is the sensation, clearly, the authors had in mind here. Like the sensation you have when you inadvertently step on a piece of dogshit while wearing brand new shoes: what the hell did I just step on? A queasy feeling, and then the horror of finding what it is!
Yeah, that's this movie in its essence: dogshit on screen.
