Not quite sure why critics are panning this movie
I mean, it's not an Oscar winner but as entertainment I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think one reason being it's not your usual shallow, one dimensional Hollywood action/thriller

shareI think it's to do with recent urban action thrillers increasing in its numbers.
John Wick, Jack Reacher, Taken, The Equalizer. They've all got similar flavor to it.
But yeah, I loved this film.
Very enjoyable with unique characters that are memorable and worthwhile.
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame
It has 51 points from Metascore. John Wick has 68. How was that better this?
shareMaybe because John Wick was non-stop 'rockem sockem' kill everyone in sight action and the accountant was a bit more, dare I say... cerebral? I enjoyed them both for different reasons.
shareThanks for your reply. But that would mean that metascore doesn't like cerebral movies? I thought exactly the opposite, that's why I'm surprised.
shareApparently he worked for criminals because he wanted millions to donate to the autism center. The tips to the treasury agents were because someone had broken his moral code -- that was the theory of the agent, and it makes sense.
Semper Contendere Propter Amoram et Formam
It's poorly structured with a lot of the story told through flashbacks and/or characters recalling past events to each other.
I think it appeals to those who like to invest themselves in characters (i.e. pretend they are the character on screen. e.g. If you like super hero films, films where the protagonist is a CIA/FBI agent, Jason Bourne type films etc...) but to anyone analyzing it from a story point of view or thematic aspect, which film critics often do, it is weak and manipulative.
I don't argue that it is entertainment, but as a film it is nothing more.
Enjoyable movie with some plot twists which I liked figuring out.
But I still needed to accept the world of this movie, about the brother, the FBI / treasury agent, the father's strange parenting, the odd code of the Affleck character, and the body count.
It had the feel of the better Luc Besson action vigilante films (the Taken series / Lucy) which isn''t a bad thing but not a great thing either.
- I'm able to enjoy the fun and just accept that things can get ridiculous at times.
6/10
Imo at least, BB ;-)
it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈
Didn't get their payoffs. John Wick is pretty much the same kind of movie, but the writing and action scenes were much worse, but it got raves while this got panned. Makes absolutely ZERO sense.
