The end (spoilers)
I assume Jason Bateman's character was planning to parachute out from the back of the plane (given the side is inherently dangerous with the engine right there). But how was he planning to open it?

shareHad the same thought. As soon as I saw the parachute I wondered if The Traveler knew that he could not open the doors by hand.
shareI don't know anything about planes but maybe there is some protocol where the back of the plan can be opened from inside (to get rid of all the cargo).
shareOnly military planes have a rear cargo door. And the cargo area is pressurized, like the cabin. It's near impossible to open those doors at altitude. You would need a small explosion or mechanical assistance.
shareI think he was just planning on staying in his seat, opening the parachute and hoping for the best.
