To anyone who pirates music: SCREW YOU HEARTLESS BASTARD!

This documentary is about the dark truth of music piracy. Look at Rodriguez, an innocent and very talented musician who lives in a rundown house in a 3rd world city called Detroit. And despite his rising popularity he still can't afford to live elsewhere. Why? As the daughter said, "Piracy". So next time when you want to download an album or song illegally, think of what happens to that artist and how he/she, too, will end up like Rodriguez because of it.

it wasn't "piracy" back then. it wasn't "piracy" until the record industry was afraid of an 'independent music wave' following the 'independent movie wave'... kids in the woods with camcorder making 'blair witch project' - bruce willis working for "free" (for percentage points) in movies like 'the sixth sense'. record industry invested MILLIONS in building "artists" they could control like the Disney kids (Miley, Justin, Britney, Christina Aguilera) and the American Idol alumni. in fact, years ago the record industry welcomed "piracy" - it was free advertising to them. you could copy your LP onto a cassette - you could make mix tapes for your friends. you could record the song off the radio. years ago they used to PAY the radio stations money to play the songs for them. that's the truth about napster.

Piracy is what got Rodriguez famous in South Africa, without that he woulnt have sold anything as his former agent have said.

secondly, he has earned millions from his tourts in South Africa. He has donated all his money to his family and charity and CHOSES to live in a small house in Detroit.

Artist gets pennies for albums you buy, it is in fact more beneficial to the artist himself (but not the record company) that you pirate his music, learn to love it and go buy a ticket to his concert. because he gets much more from a single ticket to his concert than he gets from 1000 albums you bought.

the music industry is quite *beep* up to the point where piracy actually helps the artists.
