Is the GB franchise dead?

I'm stunned how poorly Afterlife and Frozen Empire fared at the box office. Ghostbusters is one of the most popular 80s movies and yet it failed to translate into revenue. Both made no more than 200 mil. What do you think the reasons are? I myself was disappointed with Afterlife because it was too much of a PG kids movie. Frozen Empire saw Venkman returning. Yet, Frozen failed.

If we're being honest, it has been on life-support since the second movie. If people took off their nostalgia goggles, that movie is pretty safe and honestly kind of a bore compared to the first one. These movies hadn't really done anything to expand the franchise. The 2016 movie is still bad, don't get me wrong, but it kind of tried something different. Maybe if they did a followup based off that '90s cartoon instead of this 'Stranger Things' approach?

Dead, no.
Raped, yes.
