This movie deserves higher than a 5.7 rating from IMDB. Anyone who remembers the arcade video games will have some fun with this movie concept: I thought it was a clever take on the arcade games, and while it contained too much humor targeted for 15-year old boys, it has a unique concept and was executed well, if not perfectly.
Nowhere near as bad as the critics said. I thought it was entertaining in spite of the script issues. All of the video game action looked great and was fun. Peter Dinklage was hilarious. Sandler was Sandler, whatever he was just there but the movie was pretty good IMO..
Yeah i agree with you. The movie was very entertaining, and i didn't even know any of the "alien characters" (except for Madonna, not an American here. so...)
I thoroughly enjoyed the Pac-man scene though, as it was one of my favourite childhood games. Was LOL about being the baddie and stuffs like that. I wished they could max out the whole battle about it by adding the portals.
Also the Centipede scene was really well done. Especially when the nerds took over. I think it was quite a dream come through for anyone who has ever played that game before? To be playing it in a 4D simulation.
I liked how the exploded pixel pieces fell around the actors during close-ups, made me wonder if it was CGI or they really created light pixel-looking boxes just for it.
Compared to the tons of movies i have seen last year, this movie was better than most. Only regret was not seeing it in the cinema when it was out.
It was better than most Adam Sandler movies, for sure. I wouldn't call it good, but it's not as embarrassingly bad as the reviews indicate.
However, the comic delivery was strangely off. There were a lot of witty concepts that should have been funny (the Mini Cooper ghosts, the lincoln bedroom, the Q-Bert crib) but really weren't because the camera waited too long to cut to them. The camera also lingered on them longer than was necessary. I think this is more a problem with the editors and the director than the cast or screenwriters.
The best performer was Michelle Monaghan, closely followed by Peter Dinklage. Jason Gad and Kevin James were very good, as was the woman who played the British PM. Only Sandler seemed somewhat disinterested. I think the film would have been better had it focussed a little less on him and more on the other actors. I don't remember the female video game character, so that joke was lost on me but was probably funny to others.
I didn't think this could be any good when I read the concept- but I really enjoyed it! It was so entertaining . I watched it because the wonderful Peter Dinklage was in it- but it really is worth a watch. I had some laugh out loud moments recognising my old arcade foes- and Adam Sanders' comic delivey was funny. I never found him funny in anything else.
