The PG-13 Complaint

I do not understand why half the posts on here are regarding the films rating. It baffles me how people think this matters and that's not even touching upon the litany of threads about how it's making a mockery of the sub genre and how its offensive.

Let's clear something up, this is a homage which means it plays to the formula but isn't actually it's subject matter! It isn't an 80's camp slasher flick, it's not meant to be gory, include decapitations or have poorly edited grainy sex scenes..........it's a homage nothing more.

Take the Final Girls for what it is, a comedy horror that pays respect to a damn near dead horror sub-genre.

I personally enjoyed it and I'm an old fart who grew up on camp slashers, I see no disrespect and think that people need to lighten up.

I think this film would have worked better as R rated movie because of the movie concept! The film is supposed to be homage of horror movies from the 80s that involves strong horror violence, sex, and nudity. PG-13 kinda defeat the purpose.

AS other have said, it should be like the original films if it is going to be an homage. And while there wasn't much gore in SOME of the 80's slashers, the bigger problem is the lack of sex/nudity. They may be doing it for parody here, but the "hot" girl ALMOST getting naked half a dozen times is actually a HIGHLY annoying trend of POST-MILLENIAL horror movies, not 80's slashers. It has become necessary today 1. because modern-day "hot" actresses all have "no-nudity clauses" and are too "talented" to ever deign to do nudity in a horror movie, and 2. because horror movies have to be marketed to underage teens who can't get into an R-rated movie today (believe me, nobody cared in the 80's if a16-year-old saw some bare boobs in an R-rated movie).

You should ask WHY is it rated PG-13? Well, obviously they are trying to MARKET it to the same post-millenial teenage audience that is used to this kind of watered-down, limp-dick "horror". But those people aren't really going to appreciate an 80's homage because they are too young and unsophisticated and they don't REMEMBER the older slasher genre. There's nothing wrong with making movies primarily for post-millenial teens (although much of this one will probably go right over their heads), but older ADULT slasher fans aren't going to enjoy them all that much.

Perhaps for an encore, they should do a G-rated Disney parody of the 80's hardcore porn genre.

A PG-13 slasher movie is a disgrace.

T&A and great kills are what slashers are about. If you're paying "homage" to this without including this, you're making a tepid attempt. The movie had an okay premise, but should have actually gone for it.
