What was the point of Jordin Sparks's character?
Was she there merely to showcase the protagonist's difficulty accepting help? Was she there to show a way out of the projects??? I don't understand how she really contributed to the story.

shareI didn't think she was a hooker. She was a young girl maybe 17/18 that found a sugar daddy. He left his wife and kids. Either she be with him or go back to the projects. She's just another example of being a product of your environment. Like most people who are poor they do what they have to to survive. Same as Mister and Pete.
shareI agree, she was a sugar baby, not a hooker. But the difference is really just the number of clients. I got the impression her apartment building was full of sugar babies, but that might just be me reading too much into the lobby scene.
shareSpark's character was in no way a success, as mentioned somewhere on this board.
Her story is just another means to survive -another point of view of a desperate situation.
All too sad...
