First thing I thought upon watching the opening scene

"I am so sick of watching ugly, fat white men wallow listlessly in their privilege."

Seriously. Immediately I hate this movie.

Are there redeeming features to this piece at all?

reply

30 minutes in. Nope, nothing worth watching.

Try turning off the computer and focussing on watching the film rather than thinking up the next jerkoff comment to make on imdb. Often helps when watching films.

funny you say that, so does the director, since this is a satire of that culture. I'm not sure how you didn't catch onto that.

also, Tim isn't ugly at all.

reply

I guess I'm not one of those people who enjoys movies that are representations of what they hate. I'd rather watch something worth actually watching. I.e. not watching something I hate watching.

And Tim IS ugly to me.

It must feel nice and insulating to hide from the lives of people you don't identify with. Life is one great homogeneously re-affirming pleasantry for you! Hoorah!

i was just stalking this board for the pleasure of reading it, but I decided to post to tell you I love your post schellenberg

It's because he's so cynically- witty & urbane. Couldn't you tell..?

I don't need to watch a movie like this to understand the point they are making. Its evident within the first 30 seconds. Its just not a fun movie to watch. At all.

reply

Were you expecting a Tim & Eric style comedy before watching or something?

reply

I wasn't expecting anything. Just felt like watching movies and this was one I found for free streaming on the interwebs.

I find the movie to be quite funny. If you would have bothered to watch the trailer on youtube before watching the whole film, you would have gathered that the film is going to be awkward. That said, I'm also a fan of the "Tim & Eric" brand humor. I absolutely love it, in fact, making my input very biased.

I just watched the trailer, and my reaction was "I bet this is one of those movies where awkward comes dangerously close to annoying."

You're just like the nurse at the start of the movie. You reacted the same way to the movie as the nurse did to Swanson describing anal prolapses.

My first thought was: "I have seen more of Tim Heidecker than I'd ever anticipated/planned on/wanted to/expected to in mah LIFE."

Second thought was: "Why can't Eric do more of this?"
I kept looking in the background to see if he had followed suit. Alas, he had not.

I think Tim is hot and I enjoyed getting a peep of his shiny balls.

The film was discribed as "Disturbing". I can agree with that statement. A bunch over the hill white males running around acting like 7yrs olds. This is not art. Maybe to a psychologist, but not to any normal person. Why it's called "The Comedy" is beyond me. There's nothing truly funny in the trailer. If they are saying the film is a JOKE, then I would agree. You can see this kind of behavior at any bar just before closing time.

reply

lets just all agree that the movie suck ass. which it does

THAT'S THE POINT. This movie succinctly does that. They're all still children in 35 year old bodies, the people portrayed in this movie are all around you in society. What do you think his whole point was with feudalism and Hitler during the drunk rant, he has to justify his own actions somehow to feel good about himself and to get laid. The girl chuckles because of his pseudo-intellect and cleverness, but the world for him is a playground just like any *beep* who acts like Swanson and co. He is a child at heart seeking stimulation from the world around him.

His childhood was probably so empty and void of any love from his dad.

It's not supposed to be funny. I found it to be really grimy and frigging sad. These guys don't even take any real joy in their antics and the stuff they do to alleviate boredom. And it's 100% their own faults that they are bored.

Tim's character at least took a menial job he didn't need to try to feel something. We don't know what the other dudes do, if anything, to make money but they all seem pretty terrible and readily willing to make fun of both rich people and poor people, as if they are above it all, when in fact they are pretty much human garbage.
