The nudity in this movie...

WAY OVER THE TOP. First i must say that i am not bothered by nudity however i felt like the producers and directors of this movie wanted to shove nudity in our face. I really do not understand why they had to insert so much unnecessary nudity in this movie. They would show boobs when it was completely unnecessary just because they could. I was bothered by it to be honest.

Unfamiliar with the horror genre, aren't you?

reply

Unfamiliar with the horror genre? On the contraire i am quite familiar with the genre as Horror movies make up 90 percent of all movies i bother to see. But what i am trying to express here, is that the nudity was quite extreme, and at times was shown when not needed. I emphasize that they desperately tried to add nudity in this piece just because they could. Showing boobs when not necessary, showing penises when not necessary and just showing human beings unclothed when not necessary.

Every single story in this movie could have been developed quite well, even if there was no nudity in it.

the monster was a vampire, not a succubus. Succubus's don't suck another's blood nor do they have vampire fangs

I disagree. She didn't have "vampire" fangs. All her teeth were sharp and pointed. Her feet (and as we saw later, the rest of her body) were serpentine as is the case with a succubus, her agenda was to engage in intercourse with men while sucking the life out of them -another succubus trait, not to mention tearing off their genitals - the wings are a dead give away and her name was Lily...Lillith as legend and scripture of various denominations tell it, was the mother of all succubi.

Yeah Succubus was my thought too.

I can't stop thinking about Helen Rogers boobs. They were fantastic. I need to find some more of her work.

When do you consider that nudity is necessary in a movie? It's easy to make a movie that calls for no nudity at all. So, it's actually never necessary.

But, it's always fun to look at, so directors often add some.

I think the nudity in the first story was pretty much in place and not shoved in our faces either. I mean people do take of their clothes to have sex. The only time it felt unnecessary and out of place was in the 4th story with the girls flashing tits on camera. The only other nudity I remember in the entire movie was the girls tits in the opening and the guys ass in story 3 before he jumps in the lake, and they both go by pretty quick.

reply

Yeah I think it all fit fairly well into the story it was in. Like shrugs said ya take off your clothes to have sex. The girls taking off their tops on the webcam's i think was meant to show their trust for him and that he had gotten to know them well enough to take their tops off for him. The skinny dipping bit eh did it need to be there, no probably not, but it's something that does happen especially if you're younger and in that situation.

Does it offend or distract you? In such a case, I can understand it taking you away from the film, but to be honest... nudity is... nudity. It's there, we just chose to cover it up. Surprising statement from a horror buff.

We've met before, haven't we?

I think all the breasts were real. That's rare in movies with a lot of nudity, nowadays.

I'm generally opposed to too-much nudity in TV or film. HBO for example overdoes it to the detriment of its series, networks like AMC and FX prove their superiority by spending less time on tits and more time on story.

But in the case of V/H/S it was a breath of fresh air. Why? Because for once here's a found footage film with realistic nudity. It made the footage seem much more real. People are filmed in the buff all the bloody time, but in so many found footage movies it's treated as an impossibility. The nudity in V/H/S was very realistic and for that it was a good decision.

Why is nudity always a topic in imdbthreads when a show or a movies has a few instancea with a boob, a vagina or a penis. And now even in horrormovies where it is such a common traditionel element.

It is like discussing why they are so little nudity in most other movies, since people do actually get naked often. In most movies there are no nudity even though people are having sex. How is that for realism?

But I dont understand why it has to be discussed at all. It should be a natural thing, clearly that is not the case for some americans.

For me, if anything, it adds to the realism, when the camera DOESN'T stop one frame before the "naughty" parts - That is the unrealistic situation.

I think you guys have generally misunderstood what i was trying to say. I am not bothered by nudity and i don't squirm/look away when it is shown, but i was expressing my opinion about the over-usage of nudity in this film.

In the first segment, since it had to do with sex, i guess it was Ok. But in the other segments, the story would have flown normally even without unnecessary showing of human personal body parts. To me it seemed like they couldn't grab our attention with the story line, so they just inserted nudity.

First post.... "I was bothered by it to be honest."
Second post....."I think you guys have generally misunderstood what i was trying to say. I am not bothered by nudity".

So which is it? Are you bothered by it or not? Curious.....were you bothered at all by all the people that were being killed throughout the movie? And one more question.. are you christian and or american by any chance?

reply

Omg I'm so bothered by the amount of nudity I see when I stand in front of the mirror naked, like Omg don't they have censors for that?

reply

I'm sorry to hear you feel that way. The nudity, I feel, served a purpose. Being nude makes us all feel a little vulnerable. So does looking at nudity. Having nudity in a horror film opens up our emotions more to the scares that the film is trying to get out of us.
