Who uses VHS's in 2012?
Seriously?
shareI don't know anyone who still has vhs tapes, much less a vcr. I'm one of the few people it seems who actually has a dvd collection (everyone I know backed their movies up on hds and got rid of their collections).
Anyway, the only reason for that conceit is to take advantage of the over-used "glitch" effects which were a little ridiculous.
Whenever I record a show on tv I still use my VCR to do it. My VCR is still alive and kicking since 1989. I will keep on using it until it breaks. Just watched V/H/S on vhs btw. You don't know how excited I was when I saw a pack of new vhs tapes at Walmart the other day. I haven't seen them since 2007.

You sound like me, lol. Ebay is my weakness. I'm always finding deals on there:)
If you pay attention at the start of the final tape when the guys are driving to the haunted house, the time capture date at the bottom corner of the video says 1998. I think this whole movie is supposed to take place in the 90's when vas was still pretty widely used.

I honestly don't know anyone that still has a VCR or VHS tapes, even my grandma owns a DVD player.
But I do think a lot of the VHS cover art is cool, and might pick up some for a collection.
So just because the movie was made in 2012 you assume the story takes place the same year? You do realize how dumb that is? That's like saying Alexander The Great was around because the movie was filmed in 2004….
shareAfter The Fappening, I think VHS is still the way to go when making home videos.
sharetake notice that whoever had these VHS tapes also had film reels. You can see them in the basement. So someone was using small film reels and probably transferring them onto vhs. and as we move onto to part 3 they've been transferred onto the internet.
