The best of the Andy Serkis trilogy
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is another example of a 2nd movie surpassing the first in terms of quality and storytelling. Ok, so the overall human characters aren't given enough screentime as the apes, but at least the actors like Gary Oldman and Jason Clarke still gave good performances. Not to mention it fleshed out Koba as a complex sympathetic villain with his reasons for hating humans for what they did to him very justifiable. The action is great, the cinematography, while gritty, is stunning, the music score from Michael Giacchino is really good, and the motion capture technology still shines with just the right emotion. 9.5/10
