Sadness makes the film unpleasant

Do you agree

"I never hear you speak and when you do you apologize for saving me?"

reply

Joy is such a dick to sadness, always making her feel bad. Joy makes the movie pleasant and unpleasant at times. Sadness is actually a really good character. Still though, it doesn't hurt the overall quality of this great movie.

reply

Totally opposite. She was the only reason I cried at the end.

reply

Uuuuh since the main point of the whole movie is to find out why sadness is actually very important to Riley - no I really wouldnt say so.

I agree. The film's overall statement about sadness, its importance, and how children (and people) should never fake happiness for the benefit of others was all very interesting. But the actual character of Sadness was soo annoying. Especially when she kept touching the memories. Like, OK, I guess it's a biological necessity or whatever, but there was no narrative explanation regarding why Sadness kept deliberately screwing Riley up.

Sadness wasn't messing Riley up, though--she was trying to do what she was supposed to be doing and Joy (and the others) were preventing her from helping. The sad things going on were in Riley's life, the emotions weren't causing that. Sadness was just trying to touch the memories (to make them sad) and get Riley to allow herself to feel those emotions so that her parents could see it and help her.
