Sadness makes the film unpleasant

No
shareSadness is completely lovable in this film! If she ends up making you cry, it's only because she's doing her job.
"Unless you're an alien, time traveler, or esper, your opinion doesn't matter."
Thumbs up! I initially hated that character too, but later on I realized that she is doing what she's meant to do!!

Sadness is a crucial character in the film. She teaches us that being able to feel sad is an important part of life as well as joy.
shareNope.

At first she was annoying. But grew to love and appreciate her
I couldn't stand her in the beginning of the film, but didn't mind her to much in the end (not because of the character arc, but because she stopped acting so stupid ["Oh, I'm sorry, I just wanted to touch it, because the writers need me to progress the plot of the film through utter stupidity,"])
shareI didn't take it that she wanted to touch the memories just to move the story along, she knew she needed to touch them but was mimicking the way we all feel about sadness. We don't want to show it and sometimes we don't necessarily know why, but we're just sad. And then sometimes we're shamed for being sad. Sadness didn't want to do it but a part of her knew she had to do it despite being shamed by Joy.
And it's no different than Joy trying to making everything her way. Riley was mostly joyful up to that point and Joy was doing her job. Sadness was just trying to do her job after the move by making Riley sad but Joy kept preventing it.
No. Sadness makes the film meaningful. Without sadness, this would just be all about fluff and silliness. Sadness is necessary for joy to flourish. It is also something that children of this age need to experience as they morn the passing of their own childhoods, and parents need to help their children embrace so they can move forward into adolescence.
