People need to stop bringing up Mad Max as an example. It was premiering at Cannes, thus the embargo a few days before release. Furthermore, although there were no official reviews, critics has seen it before and where dropping hints that it was excellent without going into detail I don't see that here.
Transformers, Star Wars, and Marvel/DC don't need critics reviews to put behinds in seats, and Assassin's Creed is in a different category.
Are you serious with this nonsense? Major film festivals promoting premiers major movies make studios put embargoes, because what is the purpose of all that hype for a top film festival if critics have already praised or derided it? Look at the movie, Sully. Regardless, Mad Max did not wait until the night before release like AC is doing but reviews came out that Monday/Tuesday and built hype for the week.
The question you need to really be asking since the movie is tracking low, but is actually great and incredible, then why does Fox not lift the embargo and build hype, especially again such stiff competition? Asking me for sources is not going to change the films reception or box office.
Passengers is still predicted to make a decent amount of money because of starpower and the plot. It's a crowd pleaser film after all, we've seen similar films becoming hits despite bad reviews (Accountant for instance).
AC will need very good reviews if it wants to beat Passengers and Sing next week. Like a lot. But I still think it could flop in US just like Warcraft did. Overseas will save it, especially with China. Btw, when is Chinese release?
I haven't seen a single release date in China yet. AC must come out there because China saved Warcraft from being an ultimate failure (it made 200M there. Without this number, the worldwide gross would have been 237M LOL). But yeah, I don't think AC is a big as Warcraft among Chinese audience.
Where are you getting that Passengers is going to open strong at???? It's got flop written all over it , people are tired of jennifer's diva attitude and it's getting bad reviews .It will not beat Assassin's Creed at the box office , must be alot of Hunger Game fangirls in here.
Now currently around a 33%. The score has been fluctuating between the early 30s and late 20s from the site. Anyways, those early reviews for Passengers was a bit of a letdown for me. I was kinda anticipating for this movie and expect the reception to be decent. Even if the reviews do gradually become more positive around its release, it wouldn't be by much.
I could also see this movie and Passengers battling for #3 around this point. Maybe Assassin's Creed slightly more, due to an already existing fanbase of the games.
