Did you see this just because Paul Walker died? Be honest...

I had my eye on this before the great man died as I'm sure most people did. But now it seems like everyone is seeing it just because Mr. Walker is no longer with us, so I want to know, did you see it just for that reason, if you did... did you regret it?

I watched this movie because I wanted to see a movie where the main theme was fatherhood, and this was the most obvious one I could find. My father died recently. To me the movie gave what I was looking for, whether it works on other levels I can't say.

I do feel for Walker's daughter. Even when you are an adult at that time of your life where losing a parent has become something you expect to happen it still hurts. She shouldn't have had to go through this at her age.

Okay, I wanted to add one thing: one thing that bugged me slightly in the movie was the relationship with the wife. Now when you suddenly lose somebody it's quite understandable to focus on what had worked in the relationship, and what had been good, but as it was written the father's memories of his wife build a somewhat too perfect picture. The dead mother seemed to have been absolutely perfect, and their relationship one of a fairy tale True Love. It didn't bug me much, but it was bit of a cliche.

The story worked, but it might have worked even better if his memories of the mother had showed something less perfect. Or, perhaps, even bad. A crumbling marriage, on the verge of a divorce, or no real relationship at all. Maybe a woman who had tricked the man to become a father against his will, and a man who would have had every excuse to abandon the baby, but ended up staying anyway. Maybe a man who starts reminiscing angry at her for having put him in that situation, but perhaps mellows at least some during the movie as he starts to bond with the baby. Now his staying seemed inevitable, the main conflict was just his struggle to keep the baby alive.

Also, this works better as a drama than as a thriller, so I suppose whether you like it or not has a lot to do with your expectations.

Yes and I did regret it.

Yeah it looks like a bad film to me. If he hadn't died I wouldn't even know his name. Looks like one to avoid based on the description. I couldn't be bothered with his attempt at being angst-ridden without ridiculously unbelievable car action to distract me.

I think most people saw this because he died. As sad as it may sound, his death in some way, helped promote this film.

I own 21 of his movies on dvd/blu-ray, so needless to say I enjoyed his movies. Even before he died, Hours was on my wishlist. The week of release I looked everywhere for the dvd. Best Buy was sold out, Target didn't have it either. Went to two Wal-marts just to find the very last copy.

It's too bad that the dvd is bare bones. Except for some preview trailers, a ROWW PSA and a music video there are none. Where's an audio commentary by the director, or featurettes?

It definitely swayed me BUT I do watch a wide variety of films and this likely would've been one I added to my netflix queue. I mean sometimes I'll come across films that never made it to theaters and will want to check them out. So I guess the short answer is yes, I still would've rented it, but his death made the decision a little easier. I actually was watching the fast and the furious the day he died. :( Once it was over I saw it all over the news that he died. Sad day indeed. I really was looking forward to part 7 (still am, but for different reasons now).

I knew about this movie before, but I wasn't interested in it. Yes, I watched it because of Mr. Walker's death.

I had watched it long before his death.
