Yeah, that was pretty annoying. They should have at least had a scene where he finds them all underwater or missing batteries or something. Finding a crank thing to keep the batteries charged is pretty far-fetched
shareI though the same thing initially, why not just find a same maching and swap the batteries? As for the generator deal, they are pretty common in hospitals so that is really not that far fetched.

How much time u guess do u need, to swap the batteries - with no experience? Would u risk to break a "working" machine by trying to repair it? And if u can't get it done in time, your baby will be dead. Is it really worth it? I would say no...

He did look for batteries and medication. The nurse came back, but.. you know. Hes not a mechanic or an electrician. He did the best he could in a tough situation. As for the machine running out, having only a few minutes to search for items before running back, that makes the whole movie more thrilling!

Exactly, the entire movie was about him trying to find solutions to the problems he faced. Everything he did was to keep his child alive. He was a person who found himself in a very dire situation and had to improvise what to do in order for him and child to survive it. As for the talking to the baby part, he wasn't "wasting time", it was necessary for the film to show his emotions, what he was feeling, his human experience. Any human being can sympathize/empathize with his character. The flashbacks with his wife and the part where he imagines her there with him shows how much he loves her and just adds to the emotion and shows the kind of character he is. That's the entire point of the film, is the human experience, to show how the hurricane affected one specific person, rather than the catastrophe affecting the larger city.
uh... if the answers to his problems were as simple as that, then there won't be a movie for you to watch!

There's not a single movie with a similiar premise to this that doesn't have people saying things like, "OMG WHY DIDN'T HE DO THIS?!" You're forgetting one thing though; he's under immense pressure and mental stress. You can easily sit there and pass judgement on how you would handle a situation like this, but until you're under the pressure he was you, really can't judge. People do strange things in situations like these across the world on a daily basis that doesn't make sense.
shareBecause they wouldn't have had a movie if he did the obvious. I gave them the benefit of doubt and thought, "Okay, they took all the other pumps from every floor, during the evacuation." However doubtful.
Too bad they didn't tell the character that the pump wasn't necessary, and it's only a nursing convenience. An IV can be administered by slow drip, directly, and oxygen in the unit could've been administered manually. He couldn't figure that out, and nobody thought to tell him. A pity.
The dog not only saved the character, but the movie itself. Most of the movie was predictable. Walker gave a great performance though, especially with the script he had to work with.
