What did you like about National Anthem? I thought it was a total waste of time, and was thinking about never watching the series again. But Then I watched The Entire History of You, and started watching again.

reply

National Anthem is a work of art. It's a great situation where the prime minister is placed in such a position. If the princess was revered as much as Princess Diana is and the public believed that the only way to save her life would be for the prime minister to have sex with a pig then either he does or his entire life afterwards will be the prime minister that let Diana die and the same goes for his party. Is it so difficult to *beep* a pig to save such a special person's life? Wouldn't you do it?

Futhermore, I like how it is one of those moments in history where everyone must watch it on tv as shown by everyone glued to the screen at the oub. It us one of those "where were you when the prime minister banged the pig" moments. Like JFK, John Lennon, twin towers etc.

Anyway, it was a work of art.

Actually I find shallow. It is hard to believe it is a work from the same people as The Entire History of You. National Anthem is preposterous, unlike the other events you described. If Beavis and Butthead were real, they might like it. Not interesting, sorry.

reply

I love how you are asked to share your opinion, then it is completely disregarded and you are put in the same category with Beavis and/or Butthead. It is OK, however, because "sorry" was added at the end.

The episode was disgusting, but it also was fascinating and I contemplated it long afterward. For this reason, it is one of my favorites. I love this series because it manages to avoid being pretentious while providing food for thought. In my humble opinion. I don't think Beavis would agree but, But Butthead might.

Same here! I had actually watched White Christmas first, and I absolutely loved it and bought all the praise the show got.

Then I started the show with National Anthem, and I had assumed White Christmas was a fluke and that maybe the series wasn't for me after all. To this day, I don't understand the appeal of it.

I watched 15 Million Merits and liked it better than National Anthem but still wasn't too invested or attached, until I got to Entire History of You and was floored.

A rose is just a rose.
