The Waldo Moment was the best episode

It's even better now after Donald Trump won the election. This is why democracy is flawed, in a nutshell.

I realized today though that it probably was based on Triump the Insult Comic Dog. Brilliant episode in every way, hands down.

I enjoyed it, also.

Although the satire part was good, it was the pathos of Jamie that sold it for me. He just couldn't handle the whole situation. It was sad the way he fell apart.

reply

Except that Waldo wasn't one of the richest men on Earth, whose buildings stand all over the world.

reply

In the election people voted for Harambe and Cthulhu was running too. Pretty realistic I would say.

reply

What was going on during the credits? Waldo won election in China or something?

I figured it was some sort of world domination scenario. Remember when the guy from the CIA went to have a chat with Jamie and his manager? He starts talking about Waldo would be great as a power figure in many countries because it's not possible to hold him against any political view and he can work as a free agent.

reply

You are close to the truth. He became government agent, distracts people from real problems and used for marketing.

reply

It is strange to look back on most reviews of this episode saying that it was too far fetched of an idea that a nihilistic cartoon would rise to power. Much more innocent time. In retrospect, most prophetic episode of the series.

reply

Waldo is less of a cartoon than Trump.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that all of the smart people are on the Black Mirror boards.

No second worst, after National Anthem.

RIGHT.

Go away.

I am American and still reeling from our devastating election, so I couldn't bring myself to watch this episode. I watched about 10 minutes and when I realized where it was headed, I had to stop. This is the only episode I haven't watched. Maybe someday!
