Oh I love how everyone is commenting on the LOOKS, the CGI, and the ACTION... Like it was SUPPOSED to be another cheap and retarded summer flick with all flash and no substance. Which it definitely wound up as, and that's MY problem with it. It's NOT okay. The anime itself (and the manga, of course) is a fine drama, it's clever and horrifying and it doesn't draw its awesomeness from jump scares, gore, overacting or infantile jealousy. It deals with courage and fear, desperation and ignorance, greed and corruption, friendship and trust, family and responsibility, perseverance, discrimination, animal instincts and all the monsters inside our minds. It's deep as *beep*. The movie captured nearly none of that. And if you say there wasn't enough time, well, they could've very well made it TWICE AS LONG. Yes, movies can be 3 hours long. And they can have more than 3 parts. And they're largely pointless if based on games or manga+anime, but can still be successful; eg. live action Death Note is quite bearable, even though more than half of it was cut. AoT just isn't.
