A REMAKE AGAIN, WHATS WRONG WITH U PPL

Seriously, a lot of cheap remakes are getting made like this thai film that is one of my favorite films. 'coz Hollywood is much of a *beep* when it comes to remake

reply

i really doubt that the hollywood version/remake would be better
no worries, its just like total recall & judge dredd

reply

I enjoyed Judge Dredd, the effects in it was the best i have seen in films.

reply

Dredd was a thousand time better than the original Judge Dredd. Also that was more a Reboot then a Remake because of the completely different story.

reply

The new Judge Dredd is a thousand times better than the Original - don't know what film you were watching!!

Edit: If I'd have seen Broadway's totally correct reply - I would have bothered typing the same thing.

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware this is the Internet BOOK Database.

reply

hey man whats the thai version called ???

Meh. I'm just happy they're remaking it as the ending to the original was horrible. They had a fantastic film, then, at the last minute, went "How do we become racist while insulting America for no reason other than we believe in stereotypes and hate people?" And boom! You have the ending for the original.

Had the ending to the original not been a giant middle finger to America, I'd see some point in your argument.

reply

we might look worse letting some narrow-minded film makers views goad us into damage control.

reply

Before someone complains about remakes or that there's nothing original anymore I challenge them to come up with a story that is completely original and borrows nothing from anything that has ever been made before. This counts books, movies, tv shows, video games and any other sort of media out there. If you can do this you have the right to complain. If not you must keep silent on the matter of remakes forever. Ready? Go!

I think that you have a very narrow view on what the word original means. Even in original compositions, there are aspects of other works and influences. I believe that when people are complaining about the unoriginality of Hollywood, they are talking about direct remakes of previously made movies, adaptations (of books, comic books, video games, board games, et al.), and sequels, which seem to be a large portion of the movies being pushed from studios these days. no matter how broad or narrow your definition of originality is, or how much you like the films being made, there is no way that you could possibly defend this type of production as original. That's why there are two categories at the Academy Awards, one for best adapted screenplay and one for best original screenplay.

Also, the ability to come up with a completely original idea is an incredibly arbitrary criteria to qualify one to be able to critique a movie or other production in that category. Most movie critics have never made a movie before. Most sports writers have never played professional sport. Most building inspectors have never built a skyscraper, and most restaurant patrons have never been professional chefs. You don't need to be able to do said action proficiently in order to weigh in with an opinion. All you need to do is have an opinion. In order for your opinion to be taken seriously by anyone other than those who share it, your opinion should be weighted in some actual (or rather factual) basis.

reply

What I'm saying is that at this point in time it's difficult to make something that people won't automatically compare to everything else that has already been made and no matter what you come up with people will complain that it is simply (Insert movie/book/tv series title) IN SPACE!, X meets Y, X meets Y on acid and so on. Why? I don't know. I think people just love to complain about everything. It's the downside of civilization progressing to the point that life isn't a daily struggle to survive and having too much free time on our hands. I say if something is well made regardless of it it is a direct remake or if it has obvious influences from something else I may give it a shot. If others don't want to see such things that's fine. No one is forcing them to. Do something else, but stop complaining about things you don't want to see or make something you do. Getting upset won't stop it from being made. Complaining simply draws attention to the thing you dislike and increases the likelihood others will flock to see it thus making it a success. Ignoring it would be the better plan if you want it to fail and fall into obscurity.

Personally on the rare occasion that remake improves upon original - I know it has happened I just can't think of one this early

It has, which is why people complaining about remakes are idiots!

Heat
Scarface
The Thing
Cape Fear
Ocean Eleven
12 Monkeys
The Fly
Casino Royale (Although technically it wasn't a remake)

Not to mention the remakes that actually turned out great, although they may not have improved on the original.

The Departed
Dawn of the Dead
King Kong (Debatable)
3:10 to Yuma
The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo
True Grit

To name a few.

interesting logic. so, because someone did something right, nobody has a right to complain about the cases where someone didn't? wow, that's a pretty republican point of view.

so, if someone plays a single great football game, nobody has the right to complain if he sucks for the rest of his career, right? ;)

You can complain about one movie if it turns out horrible. But to complain about remakes in general is idiotic.

Also, i never said anything about not having the right to complain about anything, genius! I said they were idiots, but idiots still have rights, duh!!

well, crass generalizations are generally stupid.

so that also counts for you, complaining about people that complain about all remakes just as much as about the people you are critizing, not to speak of being extremely hypocritical.

"Also, i never said anything about not having the right to complain about anything, genius! I said they were idiots, but idiots still have rights, duh!! "

that might be the dumbest thing i have read in a while. congrats.

lurk more.

You're not only an idiot, you're also an delusional idiot. Well, no point in arguing anymore with you then. Seriously, calling other idiots, has nothing to do with rights. Grow a brain idiot!!

Calling my statement dumb for calling you out on a extremely dumb statement you made, because you lack the skill of constructing a logical argument, lmao!

God, you must have a lot of people shaking their heads at you if that's how you argue in real life!

"because you lack the skill of constructing a logical argument"

oh the irony.

"lmao!"

you mean "letting my anger out"? xD

at least your mom nodded at my proposal.

reply

Lol, you have a serious lack of reading comprehension. No point in arguing with you, doesn't mean the same as "through with this conversation. And im not arguing with you about the OP's subject anymore, am i?

Effort, LOL. You haven't seen me put any effort into this, why would i waste actual effort on delusional trolls with lack of intelligence, they won't understand me anyway. It takes seconds for me to write this post with no effort at all. You amuse me, that's all.

Your insults are based on your own lack of reading comprehension and they are the most unoriginal i have ever seen, lmao. It's like you just throw random insults (and arguments earlier) at me that you have read somewhere else, then copy pasted them to your posts, but that doesn't fit into this "conversation", it's hilarious really.

An intelligent (and actual funny) insult takes the actual facts - not what you would like them to be - and throws them back at the person that should be insulted in a creative way that doesn't ignore the actual facts.

Hmm, maybe you should follow the link. It's not an actual diary genius. It's yet another evidence of your serious (and somewhat frightening) lack of intelligence, when you try to fabricate actual facts to suit your "argument" or your kinda pathetic attempt at insults, LOL.

and yet you come back for more. masochistic?

"An intelligent (and actual funny)"

oh, the irony.

Sorry I should have been clearer. I speaking of remakes of Asian movies. Although judging by your inclusion of the The Thing you'll probably say something like The Ring or Grudge.

BTW, what was 12 Monkeys and Heat remakes of? Sounds like I'd probably enjoy watching the originals given your list.

"Antifreeze. Knife under the pillow. The pillow itself..."

reply

I like the Ring remake, but the Grudge suck. Also just to be clear, it was the John Carpenter remake of The Thing from another World, not The Thing remake with Joel Edgerton i was talking about.

12 Monkeys is a remake of the short La Jetée, and Heat is remake of Mann's own L.A. Takedown.

it actually makes a difference. the overall outrage of the recent "oldboy" remake showed the production company, that they might not have the cash cow there, that they expected and decided to open it in only 500 cinemas over the USA. even many less internationally. i am pretty sure that production company will think about such think at least twice before remaking another asian classic. xD

"laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone." - Dae-su Oh

reply

Just like with Oldboy. I enjoyed the hell out of that movie. People like you are whining crazy about it being a remake of some foreign film that nobody has ever heard of. Here's the deal.....America has a much bigger wallet when it come to film making and viewing. And I never would have heard of the original. So what happened is, I enjoyed the new version, which made me aware of and interested in the original...so please...STFU.

reply

Here's how to say that without sounding like a whiny b*tch.

"Hey guys, did you know this is based on another movie that is even better! You should check it out sometime! Peace! :) #Awesomesauce"

Now that I've got that out of my system, you can go back to wanking about how amazing your taste in movies is.

reply

I honestly thought this remake was really, really good. Besides, except for 3 challenges you could almost call it a whole other movie. Only the theme do they have in common. So it IS possible to enjoy them both. I did.

They're both funny and suspenseful with a high pace. The remake is just a bit more brutal and gory.

I recommend people watch them both and just see them as two different movies.

"Hail to the king, baby" :OD

reply

They changed almost exactly the aspects I expected. Remove the culturally uncomfortable challenges, maker it more visually appealing, and slap on a "happy" ending that makes little sense. More gore, less thinking.

I figured I'd learn after Oldboy but I keep watching the remakes anyway. I guess that makes me part of the problem. Someone remind of an Asian remake that was superior. If I agree then at least no beat myself up too much.

---
I didn't come in here and I'm not leaving now.

reply

Calm down. People need to stop bitching about remakes. What's the problem? Does it make the original movie worse? No. It's a remake. It should go without saying, but apparently it's a difficult concept to grasp to some.

I've watched the original and it was great and I look forward to watching the remake.

reply

people need to stop trying to defend remakes in genereal. especially with such hollow "hollow" arguments.

i enjoyed this one and many more, BUT...

yes, of course it does damage every movie experience that has suprises and most importantly A TWIST in it.

if you watched the oldboy or 13 or spoorloss remakes before watching the original, you got a way less impressive experience to start with by watching the watered down version first and it also took away from you the impact, that watching one of the originals before having the most important plot points and/or a version of the twist spoiled to you.
