Did Pen have sex with Paul on the rocks?

No one has addressed this question on the board. Do you think Paul had sex with Pen on the rocks when she got nude and laid on the rocks and invited him over to her? When they get home that evening, at the dinner table, Pen seems significantly content and she stares at Paul funny, although he avoids her glance and looks distracted. Then, when her father asks how her day was, she says that she enjoyed her trip greater than she expected or something along these lines. When she leaves the table, Pen taps the table with her fingers in a cheery way. She gives plenty of hints that she's feeling over the moon, whereas at the beginning of the film she's more of a wallflower and unexcited about anything.
What do you think?

@Polly_Ken. Thankyou! I find it so annoying that men can be older, but women cannot, when it comes to being with younger partners. Such hypocrisy!!
It often seems that makes only watch films to see sex and forget about the story surrounding it. If they want to watch porn there's plenty of it online. Nudity and sex in real films tells a story unlike pornography.

I think they didn't have sex and Paul walked away. Paul & Marianne have a strong relationship, and therefore still stick together even knowing about all the mistakes both did.

I don't think they did either. Hard as it would be for a man to resist her, I think he did. If they'd had sex on those rocks, they'd both show some wear. The wounds we later see on Paul clearly came from the set of keys Harry was holding when they struggled in the pool.

When Paul and Penelope return from their hike and are at dinner, Paul is clearly the least uncomfortable there. He doesn't seem guilty like a man who had cheated on Marianne would be. Penelope is clearly trying to give off the impression that something happened between them. I also think her desire to suddenly leave is more likely indicative that she was rejected. Or if something started between them, it ended quick and she didn't get her way.

My guess is a resounding Yes! Just the way both Paul and Pen were acting afterward. Also, everything fell apart after that day. Paul and Pen getting on was the turning point of the movie, imho.

reply

Actually I believe NO. It's well established that Pen is a manipulative flirt. When she was ultimately rejected by him, she saved faced and wanted to leave the island.

reply

I agree. Paul was too much in love with his wife and too principled.
