Good movie, but something didn't make sense
A big point is made throughout the movie, via dialogue and cinematography, that the heath is so remote, so inhospitable, that it's uninhabitable by any but wild animals and roaming bands of criminals. Yet we see that it's a relatively short ride from Kahlen's homestead to Schinkel's fancy estate. In fact, in one scene of Kahlen working in his fields, Schinkel's mansion is visible in the background, no more than a few hundred meters away. So, the heath doesn't really seem to be so much an outland of wilderness as everyone makes it out to be.
