Beetlejuice’s Ex-Wife

They play her up like she is the “big baddie” of this movie, but she turns out to be irrelevant by the end of the film, kind of a wasted plot line. They should have chosen one villain to focus on in stead of split it between her and ghost boyfriend.

reply

I have to agree. She was completely pointless.
Danny De Vito had more going for him in the movie than her.

reply

Yeah, it would have been interesting to have Danny DeVito as the villain as a callback to when he was the Penguin in Batman Returns (also starring Keaton and directed by Burton). I was expecting there to be some big fight/finale with the ex-wife at the wedding with her appearing when the priest would ask if anyone objects to Lydia and Beetlejuice being married instead of her just getting eaten by a sandworm.

reply

I agree. She felt wasted.

reply

I also agree.

reply

The ex-wife and the actor/cop characters almost seemed like spinoff characters.

reply

Yeah, they feel like they belong in another film or are only in this film to set them up for a future Beetlejuice-related movie.

reply

Yeah. Her ending was weak and nonsense after all the hype throughout movie.

Should have been big fight with her and Beetlejuice
