Her American accent was pretty perfect! It didn't sound forced at all. Kudos, Keira!

I agree. Coming in I had doubts that she'd be able to play an everyday middle class American. But she pulled it off (other than being too skinny).

Not out here in Seattle! We don't have nearly the obesity epidemic that you see in many other parts of the country, so the thin middle class family is very believable- it's mostly what I see here!

Wow I just watched the trailer then came on here, I had not even noticed that she didn't have her usual British accent, and I am British! Kudos to Keira

Has she ever done anything with an American accent? I can't think of anything. She sounded good. It looked like a good film to take that risk on. I can't wait to see it!

I thought her "American accent" was pretty spot-on back in 2005 "The Jacket"...

Agreed. I just watched the trailer and I heard no trace of her British accent. She even sounded sexier with Amrican accent.

*beep* I know that Keira has an english accent, and I totally forgot about it in the movie. I didn't even notice. DAMN.

She's had quite a while to grapple with it! As some have already said, she had to take on an American accent for "The Jacket". There was a funny scene in "Last Night" where Knightley had to sound American so the voice recognition of her phone could understand her. And her recent films Jack Ryan and Begin Again (her singing voice) further showcase her mastery. In Keira's first stage production in 2009 called "The Misanthrope",her character had an American accent that most definitely informed the way Megan sounded. Having watched that particular play, hearing Keira in this film immediately felt familiar. The standout thing about the film for me was the uniformly great acting, especially Knightley's!

It's easy for American actors to put on a British accent, but the other way around always sounds a bit off. But Keira pulled it off fantastically!

ust be a perspective thing. British people can ALWAYS tell (it's usually in pronunciation, like no American ever says the word "can't" how we do, they say it as in "kant" which is how it's said in America)

Robert Downey Jr in Chaplin is I daresay the only truly convincing example I can think of at the moment.
