*beep* movies like this

What deepens segregation is people like you, who are presented with the terrible truth of the past that has yet to be healed. The past matters, yes, but only as a lesson to not repeat ourselves or to extend the residual effects of slavery that are till in play right now. Institutional racism is real in this country, directly, expediently, and totally affecting the live of African Americans. How can you not see that? Is it that the problem is still to big for you to deal with, so it's just easier to sweep under the rug? Or is it just ignorance and apathy that spurs you?

I get that you want to sweep that bit of history under the rug in lieu of the positive ones, but no. Fnck you.

It was reasonably fair and balanced portrayal, I thought, as much as one can expect fom a mainstream production. It sure wasn't some anti-white propaganda piece as far as I could see.

To all you who blame me for being ,,another butthurt redneck or whatever'' i say: i was angry when i saw this movie and then of course i went to imdb to post my opinion. And i dont regret it because: in my line of work i see all kinds of people and everyone of them has the same needs and goals in life as me. I am a trucker and whenever a fellow trucker stops near me and asks for help i just help him or her(whatever a skin color is). And then i saw this movie and it (this movie) became a bad taste in my mouth because the other day i gave my last working light bulb to a feĺlow trucker (who was different skin color person) because he needed it and then he thanked me back and that was a fair deal because a fine (for a broken light bulb) is bigger. And thats that. I wont respond to any more replies on this subject because i feel i already explained my opinion and the saddest thing is: Brad Pitt won an oscar for this movie. How *beep* up is academy?

Ever heard the phrase "those who don't remember history are condemned to repeat it"? Films about slavery, the Holocaust, colonialism, and yes, examples of non-white-perpetrated atrocities like 'Beasts of No Nation' and the book 'The Rape of Nanking' are vitally important educational tools.

I understand your point of view, but you're wrong. You've got it completely backwards.

What kind of idiot thinks remembering historical injustices actually increases segregation rather than ends it? Segregation survives wherever people think it's something that shouldn't be discussed.
