Americans don't understand this type of movie
All they want are happy endings, life isn't always like that, we need this in life and learn to live with it to be better.

shareInterestingly, as an American, I most commonly hear people complain that (whatever-movie-of-the-week) would have been better if it didn't have a happy ending.
There is something to the Hollywood cliche, and it's not actually caused by American movie-goers, in my opinion. It's caused by large production studios who aren't willing to make a risky bet. Movie cliches are known for bringing audiences to the theater, and even if it's not what most people would prefer to see, the studio is still confident that they'll make money at it. If they go completely off the map for things that haven't been tried (repeatedly and with large audiences), they might take losses.
Other countries don't have the same entrenched movie studio system the US has. I think independent movies are equally easy/hard to make in every country, but in the US it's particularly easy to crank out many cliched studio-backed films a year.
Typical Americans are as much to blame for the movie industry as typical Chinese people are to blame for lead paint being used children's toys manufactured there. Business people looking to make a quick buck exist in every country where both people and money exist.
^^^this. except that if americans wouldn't predominantly favor happy endings, they wouldn't be so prevalent, and if people would boycott toys made in China (I don't even know if they're sold there or only exported) they wouldn't be made anymore. the best place to hit someone and make it hurt is in the wallet.
shareMany of my friends will only see happy endings films. While I much admire the director, and like the horror genre (as well as Oscar worthy films and foreign flicks)...this one failed to grab me:(
shareNot only is this not true but it's a vast over generalization and stereotype of American moviegoers. You failed to name any examples or studies so we'll presume you're just trolling.
shareThanks for your pat generalizations which exist just to be pat generalizations, lots of Americans liked this ending.
shareTo have an opinion/s about something/anything and basing that/those opinions on where you are from just because you are from there is...I dunno really...socially and culturally ignorant? How 1999 of you. Americans don't understand a lot of things and Americans understand many things, but they don't do either because they are American. you ruined my morning DICK tracy.
-"Just something from a film I like."
Haha. Well said. Understanding/not understanding this movie has no relationship to being American. I don't understand what the OP means by Americans "not understanding" this movie. It's not very complicated. How could someone fail to understand it? I think the OP mean "Americans don't LIKE this type of movie", which is another absurd generalization. I'm American and I liked it. I love horror movies and even with the shoddy CGI, I enjoyed this one a lot. Sad endings can be great. I don't want EVERY film to have a sad ending, nor do I want every film to have a happy ending. It depends on the story. Or maybe I'm just a stupid, fat, ugly American. Who knows?

How ignorant can you be? I'm an American who loves films from all over the world, and while *some* people like the cliche' formulas, there are plenty here who do not.
