An Accurate Review

https://angelusnews.com/arts-culture/conclave-movie-review/

"Besides a few respectable performances from a more-than-respectable cast, all “Conclave” has to offer is a rather predictable plot, cardboard characters, and a whole lot of cliches and stereotypes. The problem here is not that it is full of bias against the Catholic Church. The problem is that it is just plain bad."

I wouldn't consider that an accurate review at all. The film is getting a lot of great reviews and is widely expected to get multiple nominations. The cinematography, production design, costumes and score are all excellent. The screenplay is sharply written and the film is entertaining.

We disagree on this one. You have almost 11,000 posts. Didn't plan ahead well with that username did you. ;D

reply

It's an inside joke.

The other poster is wokeism personified, he already liked the film before he saw it (if he ever did).

OP is a little disingenuous. Angelus News is a Catholic news platform. Just a wee bit biased.

Megyn Kelly must be the last person not to know the plot of this movie. She agreed about the clichés and stereotypes. She thought it was a perfectly awful movie, and a slam against Catholics everywhere to release it the week before Christmas.

BTW, DonenWoods13, folks are beginning to say they would appreciate a site that let folks know if a movie was "woke" or not. You watch a lot of movies -- I don't, or I'd do it -- when you watch a movie, you could give it a review on a 0 to 10 scale of whether it's woke or not, so people who want to avoid that sort of thing can simply avoid it.

Full bias against something is also a problem.

There is full bias, and there is being a lifelong Roman Catholic who understands the inner protocol of the church. I am the latter. Yes, there may be good performances, but I choose not to support anti-Catholic, inaccurate films.
Everyone knows of Godwin's law: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches."
I think there should be one for Catholic hate because after two, or even one counterpoint, the anti-Catholic brings up priest scandals or even goes all the way back to Torquemada and the Inquisition.
I am not sure if you are accusing me of wrong, it just gets tiresome to be persecuted by those who do not know the whole history. (not you)
The DaVinci Code is wildly inaccurate. The Priory of Sion is a hoax that non-Catholics and even atheist scholars have debunked. pax
I have noticed your comments since returning to MC last summer (Olympics), and usually agree and appreciate them.

reply

I was not accusing you of anything, I'm just disagreeing with a statement in the review. I'm not even a Catholic or a Christian, but I agree there is a strong anti-Catholic sentiment in Hollywood and the mainstream media. Of course the church has its problems, but I can think of at least one other religion with much bigger problems and I see no Oscar nominees ever seriously addressing those. A movie can be the most perfect one in the world, but if it's full of bias I do consider it a huge problem, unlike the author of that article. If you really feel you have truth on your side, then why not represent things as they really are? People with limited knowledge of the subject, will just assume these movies are reality.

Thank you. On a lighter note, I had almost enough credits in school for a minor in French History and Literature. I went with a girlfriend to see Napoleon last year and got such a bad case of the giggles, an older woman behind us shushed me very loudly, which, of course, worsened the giggling. My embarrassed friend handed me a 20 and whispered, "Why don't you go get us some treats ... and take your time." ;D

reply

Lol, I have to admit I'm kind of like that old lady when when I go to the movies, but I really can't blame you for getting the giggles while watching Napoleon. I'm sure you did in fact "take your time".😆
