lousy survival movie

i like survival movies. i know all about the donner party, the u-571 "alive" story, and i've watched the one about the kids stuck on the ski lift freezing, "the way back" where they escape from a gulag and walk 4000 miles home, etc. this film is, i'm afraid, an exercise in making fun of the audience.

the disappointments and tragedies he keeps having aren't relevant or unique enough the way they're delivered. what many might appreciate as brilliant minimalism is more like a cheap joke here and since they didn't get any supplies to make a real film--almost like a metaphor for how unprepared he was and everyone is stunned by how few necessary supplies he had for his trip--they didn't have much to work with and the resulting film is just a let down.

i bet he's not proud of it. i'm sure he knows that people will feel totally insulted by what they tried to pass off here.

I have no idea why you and others are complaining about "not knowing what he's doing".

It seems like everyone needs to have things spoon fed to them on what's going on.

He was plenty prepared. He had a repair kit, maps, knew to store fresh water in portable container, we see him control his boat very well, etc., etc.

We were also shown that he is a quick study, when it comes to the sextant.

As for not that many supplies, he had tons of supplies. You just aren't thinking about what little time he had to get them, as well as all of the lost supplies.

We also don't know how long he had already been out to sea.

"since they didn't get any supplies to make a real film--almost like a metaphor for how unprepared he was and everyone is stunned by how few necessary supplies he had for his trip--they didn't have much to work with and the resulting film is just a let down. "
---How do you know they didn't get any supplies to make a movie???

Please reveal your source for this conclusion.

Personally, I thought Frozen was waaay worse. Dear Lord, I want to take the writer out and slap him with chunks of ice; first for calling a movie 'Frozen' and barely toying with the hypothermia before adding THE WOLVES, which broke my suspension of disbelief right in half, and second, for allowing that waste of film Parker to survive. She needed to die, maybe in place of one of the boys.

With all due respect for Mr. Redford and his career, self-indulgence is the word coming to my mind increasingly. Thats not since this movie though.

(The word is "root", for *beep* sake, yeah irony abundance)
