Have no idea how this show is rated 7.4....

I'm sorry, but this program is so painfully slow to watch. How creators could take a pretty interesting true-crime murder and turn it into this is beyond me.

There are much better true crime portrayals out there.

I haven't seen it (yet) but given the poster and the gritty tone of it after having watched the trailer I thought it would be similar to True Detective. I might be more incentivized to watch it when word of mouth spreads around it.

Well, without providing spoilers - it is nothing like the first season of True Detective. For one thing, it is too long and could have been better if more heavily edited and condensed. In some ways, they kept going over the same ground again and again and in a way that did not move the story along well or build a compelling reason to really invest one's feeling into most of the characters in the series.

Another area it fell short in was in Garfield's portrayal of the lead detective - he just didn't pull it off in different ways. You get the main point about what his character is going through but it just doesn't resonate enough to care too much.

Thanks for the review, I was thinking about giving this miniseries a chance but I think I'll hold off on it for now. Just finished watching Black Bird and that was an excellently paced 6 episode miniseries.

What is Black Bird about? I tried the first 30 minutes of Under the Banner of Heaven but it was so slow I couldn't keep my focus. I gave up. I watched the other one, the one about polygamist Mormons - Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey. I thought that one was quite gripping.

‘As Jimmy Keene begins a 10-year prison sentence, he gets an incredible offer: if he can elicit a confession from suspected killer Larry Hall, he will be freed; completing this mission becomes the challenge of a lifetime.’

It’s only 6 episodes but Paul Walter Hauser who plays Larry Hall gives an incredible performance, so creepy and disturbed. It’s well written, directed and acted and I’d say well worth your time.

I need to watch Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, it’s on my backlog. So many series to watch haha. Crime drama series or documentaries should be gripping though so to hear this is painfully slow is disappointing.

I know, right? Maybe it picks up the pace later, but I felt that by 30 minutes in, I should feel invested, and I wasn't.

I will check out Black Bird, it sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip! I agree, it's difficult to pick shows these days, there are so many.
