Why is there no real Chernobyl movie?

I'm talking a fiction drama, something like Titanic or Pearl Harbor? I've alway been fascinated by natural disasters, I loved Titanic but I assumed there hadn't been a Chernobyl movie because it was so recent that it would be in bad taste. Still, a action/drama would be in infinitely better taste than this horror porn! The atmosphere and events are begging to be dramatized, I don't get why it hasn't happened yet.

The Chernobyl episode of Surviving Disaster is the nearest thing to a movie so far, it's 1 hour long, it covers thebackground of the era, then the ill-fated test leading up to the explosion, the denials and cleanup, the sicknesses, the evacuation and then the blame game that led to the suicide of the chief investigator because he was forced to lie to the international press playing down the incident.

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.

Why is the OP saying he loves Natural Disaster movies but then refers to Titanic and Pearl Harbor? Chernobyl was certainly a man made disaster as were Titanic and Pearl Harbor. The closest thing to natural in Titanic was the ice burg but it was a man made vessel and man made errors that caused the sinking. Natural Disaster examples... Volcanos, earthquakes, fires started by nature, mudslides Etc. It might make a good documentary but it was a human mistake and the story itself just doesn't contain enough drama, too cut and dry. Plus it's doubtful the full story has ever been completely released, It was covered up from day 1. The bottom line is that the place is spooky and interesting because it has stood alone and quiet after completely getting everyone out so quickly... I don't see a great movie there...

Just to clear things up a bit: Relatively soon after the incident in Chernobyl, an in my opinion oustanding drama was made - just not by Hollywood. The film's name is "Raspad" (Decay).

a review I wrote with several screen shots:

Wow, I had no idea Russians made a Chernobyl movie as early as 1990. I'm referring to the movie Collapse (Raspad), mentioned above. It's available on youtube.
