D'Onofrio's Accent

Since the geo is not id'd within the context of the story (?) - no reason to guess at a regional dialect. Whatever he's doing doesn't seem to belong in the rural / suburban setting or wherever it was shot in Canada. As the movie went on, kept thinking VD was doing a cross between John Malkovich and Elmer Fudd. But also kept telling myself "no, he wouldn't do that" - but the more VD said "Rabbit" the Fudd/Malkovich take stuck...

D'Onofrio can do anything in any way he wants - one of the most fascinating actors of his generation.

I'd say that the accent he was using was French Canadian

It took me a while, but I finally figured out what it reminds me of -- remember BTTF's Future young Biff? The 'Since when did you become the physical type?' line?

I guessed it was more of a speech impediment that his character developed in childhood, which can happen to abused kids. I think I read an interview once where he said he chose to have Bob speak like that to build his character.

I thought it was supposed to be a lisp, not an accent
