No Australian accents on this show?

Seeing as this show was produced in Australia, I was expecting some Aussie accents but it's all very English! Am I missing something?

Phryne is more standard English Upper Class because she's been away from Oz for some years as the preview bio states. Other than her aunt and herself, the Australian accents abound.

Some sound Australian to me. Phryne sounds more British that Aussie, but not quite fully British.

The books' author has stated she's very pleased with the Aussie accents in the series, so whatever they sound like, it's what the author intended.

I think they are centered in Melbourne, but some come from different areas. Maybe that makes a difference. They don't sound as strong an accent as, say, Croccodile Dundee, but maybe that's an accent from the outback.

I just detect the faintest of Australian accents in most of the characters. I think that only Hugh gives no doubt about the locality that he is from.

As an Australian, I can categorically say that, yes, these accents are very Australian. The broad "ocker" accent that you hear in movies like The Castle or the Crocodile Dundee films is a type of country accent that only some people in Australia have. It's occasionally known as 'strine, which 'strayans speak. I've occasionally been mistaken for English as I tend to enounciate my words.

Thanks indi-han!

I NEVER questioned the authenticity of the accents nor saw a reason anyone else would. This thread actually kind of caught me by surprise and I'm from (what used to be) the good'ol USA.
