What are the chances of there being a Season 4?

I just discovered this show on Netflix and bingewatched the first two seasons and watched season three on youtube. I absolutely love the show. The plot lines are fairly predictable and there are plot holes every now and then, but the characters are fantastic and the chemistry between Phryne and Jack is sizzling.

What are the chances that there will be a season four? I mainly worry because the first two seasons had 13 episodes and now the third only has 8. Also, I found that it is broadcasted on Friday nights in Australia, which is a horrible timeslot in the states. How are the numbers for the show when compared to an Australian audience? I saw that most episodes get a viewership of a little less than a million and that would be a death sentence for an American audience on a basic cable network, but that may be great for Australian television due to a smaller population.

Crossing my fingers that there will be a fourth season. I need more Phryne and Jack!

I did exactly the same thing! Except for Youtube, I used a different site for S3.

I have seen a few people posting about how they don't want the show to go on too long so it doesn't get boring and I agree, but I still want a S4! I would like to see Jack and Phryne get together and see how that affects their working relationship. Same with Dot and Hugh being married, how would that affect Dot working for Phryne?

This show is made by the public broadcaster, not a commercial station.

...we had to sign a petition for S3, it was cancelled after two series. If we need to sign another, I'm sure someone will post a link here. If you guys OS hadn't started buying it I doubt we'd have seen S3 at all.

It was number two that week...those were the latest I could find. For an ABC show to make it onto the list at all, let alone at 2, is amazing.

So hope there's a season 4, but things seem to have been wrapped up with Dot & Hugh's wedding, & Jack & Phryne parting with that sizzling kiss.

I read on their Facebook page that they were doing a movie. I don't know if they'd do a movie and then return to TV. I would love a series 4. 

I thought they might actually be leading up to a movie, as I read an australian online article before the episode aired suggesting a movie will be made set in London, and which is where Miss Fisher is heading. Also I understand the star lives there now. But I really would prefer a whole (13 episode) series, and most ideal would be both!

Yes, that's what it seemed like for me - and oh my goodness, could they possibly have dragged out that kiss to any more last minute? It was driving me bats the whole series!
It did seem very 'finished' with those two events (neither of which have occurred in the books - not that it matters, as I have very much enjoyed both; and the author has said she is extremely happy with how Phryne and other characters have been portrayed). I know the author has said she has no intention of allowing Phryne to get anywhere near 1932, when the Depression really 'bit' in Australia; and thus far the books have stayed in 1929 (not bad for 20 stories!)
Where did the movie rumour come from? Anyone have a reliable source? It would be sad to not see a series 4, but if we're not to have one a full length movie would be a delightful way to circle our beloved characters around and tie up some loose ends. Fingers crossed!

You're right to question the accuracy and veracity of anything in a Murdoch rag; but, yes, this does appear to be well-written article. :/

PLEASE season 4! This show has such beautiful costumes and sets plus an interesting array of characters and snaps on women's issues.

I haven't seen Season 3 yet. I'm waiting for it it hit Netflix here in the states. If ABC doesn't do a Season 4 maybe Amazon Prime can take over like they did for Ripper Street.

It's not on Youtube, anymore. It directs you to an obscure site where you have to give your credit card information just to access anything on the site. RED FLAG!

I then tried another site. Exact same thing...it directed me to an obscure site that required my credit card information.

It's never a good idea to provide credit card information to a company or person you don't know.

Getting ABC to put resources into making season 3 was difficult. I was one of those who wrote in at the end of season 2. If enough people write to ABC perhaps that would influence them.

I just read this interesting article on sexism on this show (http://if.com.au/2015/06/01/article/Phryne-Fisher-and-a-curious-case-of-sexism/DAWXFJFRKX.html, it is dated from back in June of this year, but it does mention from Every Cloud Productions’ Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger, co-creators of the popular 1929-set ABC show that they would like to produce a series 4. Yay!

Cox and Eagger say the ABC is keen to commission a fourth series and the logistics are being worked out. A key factor will be the availability of Davis, whose profile got a mighty boost internationally from The Babadook.

Last year she played Caitlin Thomas, wife of hard-drinking poet Dylan Thomas (Tom Hollander) in the BBC America telemovie A Poet in New York.

Sounds like good news to me! *fingers crossed* 

Very interesting about the sex complaints. I'm really shocked by that! It never crossed my mind. In fact, I thought it was refreshing to see someone different, someone so free. After all, she was a flapper. They were known for drinking, dancing, experimenting with sex, bobbing their hair, and generally living a wild lifestyle (according to the older folks of that generation).

I love to see her sleeping around. It shows she's human. Should she sleep around that much? I dunno. Like your linked article says, that's like complaining that James Bond sleeps around that much.

I'm not sure I'd want a young teenage girl to watch the series, since they're so impressionable. But for adults, which this series is clearly made for, it's fine.

It surprised me too...although not the double standards so much as the fact that they didn't even seem to think there was anything wrong with such double standards.

Miss Fisher is family viewing in my house. The only one I'd think twice about letting my daughter watch is the one with the vibrator. You don't need to know about sex toys before puberty.

We've only gotten through seasons 1 and 2. I get the DVD's at our local library. They can be checked out for 28 day, so you have plenty of time to get them watched. 

Me, too! I think they left it open at end of Season 3 for there to be a Season 4. I hope so. This has been one of the most entertaining tv series I've ever seen, along with Frasier, Vicar of Dibley, and a few others. One of my favorites! I may even buy the DVD set.

I just finished binge watching all three seasons on Netflix. Loved, loved, loved it. Very cute, pretty light, and great music. I agree they left it open for something at the end of season three, but if nothing else happens, then the final image of Jack with his feet firmly on the ground while Phryne's head is (literally) in the clouds is just about perfect. :)
