The council pays for NHS?

I’m very surprised the local counsel is expected to support Nonnatus House. Isn’t their midwifery and district nursing part of the national health service? Shouldn’t it be paid for on a national level?

I agree. I don’t understand it either. Health care is free in the UK due it being covered by taxes. So I would expect Nonnatus house would be government supported. But I do wonder since it’s a home for nuns maybe that is why?

The way the NHS is funded is a total mystery , each "Trust" is independant,
and covers an area that is split into primary and secondary care ,
and has CCG's (clinical commisioning groups) in it , which kind of service the GP surgaries i think.
District nurses come under the "community" side , whatever that 'division' means.

Its incomprehensible!
