GOD THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME!

Thor 1 was great, but this was just perfect. I like the Thor movies. I always found Ironman relentlessly arrogant, egotistical, and annoying. Captain America has no sense of humor, stale, and boring. But Thor is smart, charming, a leader you actually want to follow and look up to, and a great warrior. He's also the most powerful of the three.

Thor 2 was amazing beginning to end. Impeccable effects, wonderful script, acting and directing. Editing, sets, costumes, sound, and the music. All just very well done. I can't wait for Thor 3. This in my opinion is the crowning series of the Marvel adapted films.

Imho Captain America is superior to both thor movies put together...

reply

Lmfao Captain America was horrible. Red Skull underwhelmed and the cgi was atrocious. Don't even mention that laughable shot of Bucky failing from the train in the mountains. Thor is the superior film. Although Cap 2 will probably be better than other 3

reply

Wow... I know it's just opinion, but everything you said is just so wrong. No way in hell is any Thor movie better than Captain America.

reply

I agree with the OP pretty much about everything.

I also think Iron Man's arogance is too much over 3 movies. Captain America I couldn't get into. I think it was partly because he takes everything sooooo seriously, and as you say no sense of humour. So I found it harder to empathise with his character and personally invest in him.

Where as Thor is exactly how I want my warrior to be. He enjoys himself whether in battle or with his friends, and is a true leader. The sort of guy you'd like to hangout with.

Cap is not all serious but it would be wrong to write him any other way right now. In the first film, WWII is raging and people are dying left and right. Steve lost his father (a WWI hero) to mustard gas and in a cut scene from the film he was with his mother on her death bed as she died from TB and told him never to give up. This, the era and getting thrown in to the 21st century are all serious turns. There's no time to be a smart ass. I love the character.

While I do agree that this film is exceptional, I very much disagree that "Captain America has no sense of humor, stale, and boring." I think after The Winter Soldier, even the OP will be changing his mind.

reply

Lol you know I liked the movie before I read this, but I guess I have to change my mind on the film now :(

Researchers at Cambridge have found a natural way to boost testosterone. Try watching both Thor movies back to back to take your performance to the next level. It worked in 96% of those they tested.

I really, really, really have to take issue with "wonderful script".

I don't think of the movie as bad, but after a second viewing I really do believe it's one of the worst Marvel movies thus far.

Before I get negative let me just again point out that I did enjoy the movie. The art direction in particular is really great, and most of my willingness to ignore the flaws, sit back and turn my brain off stems from that. It's just a cool movie to look at - the Dark Elves, Malakith's ship, the different realms, Kurse, etc.

But wonderful script? Definitely not. In no particular order, here's what I didn't like

- the complete lack of explanation in regards to the Aether and how it affects Jane. I mean, I understand that MacGuffin's exist, but come on. She goes through the portal, just happens to be in front of the stuff the villain is looking for, it enters her body, and....? 'The energy will consume her'? Really, movie?

- uneven tone. I like that the Thor movies are funnier than expected. Enjoyed the fish out of water stuff in the original, and this movie is worth watching, if for no other reason, for 'space is fine' and 'Jane? Darcy? Erik? Ian? Mewmew!' But the movie doesn't know when to be serious and when to be funny, seemingly cramming it all into every scene.

- lack of characterization. Obviously none of the Marvel movies are going to win Oscars for their scripts, but most of the movies have done a good job with giving their characters arcs. In the original, Thor went from being brutish and insolent to a more tempered, wise person. We get almost nothing from him here, he doesn't grow or change in any way. The moment at the end where he turns down the kingship of Asgard is so out of left field and unearned. Nothing that happened to him in this movie would have taught him any sort of lesson about what is is to be a king or rule.

I could go on. As I said, ultimately I like the movie. But it's saved by being pretty and having charismatic, well cast actors. Story-wise, there's nothing here.

reply

Anyone that cries "lack of characterization" needs to pop in the Blu-ray and watch the "brother's journey" featurette. That masterfully explains how both characters have grown over the course of three films. True characterization any way you cut it. Much better than what I could type here.

TTDW is a very good film. I firmly believe that this character (and Loki as well) are the very toughest to bring to life in the Marvel stable simply because of his complexity and the far sci-fi elements involved. They did a superb job bringing home the best of the books but adding their own flare.

reply

That's something I hope they don't lose with Guardians of the Galaxy. That film could be a momentum stopper.

reply

Those new photos from Avengers Age of Ultron means it doesn't matter whatsoever. That film carries its own momentum.
