Who enjoyed this more than Guardians of the Galaxy?

I did.

Don't get me wrong, GOTG is a fun film that I like but Thor: TDW delivered more for me. Take away the sometimes forced humor and it's a near perfect sequel. Events depicted are more thrilling and deliver far more emotion than did GOTG. There are less logic flaws and, frankly, better characters at this point in the Thor franchise.

Sif and the Warriors Three weren't exactly fleshed out but neither are Gamora or Drax but the Asgardians kicked more ass. Gamora was dragged around like a powerless little girl at the prison and Drax was slapped around like a weak child by Ronan.

In terms of main and supporting characters, it doesn't get any better than Loki. Thor outclasses Star Lord and using Jane to ground the film adds extra texture.

The main bad guys are both ominous but one dimensional. Kurse was the wildcard added threat and led to far better action sequences in TTDW. GOTG's pod chase and the attack on and escape from Asgard are about equal. Everything else favors TTDW.

The visuals are equally impressive. TTDW should have received an Oscar nomination and I hope GOTG does.

This movie is honestly a better all around film compared to Guardians.

I would say both movies are near perfect but what GOTG has going for it is the chemistry between the characters whereas Thor and Jane Foster's chemistry is more wooden than Pinocchio. Also the humor was pretty cringeworthy in TDW. I welcome any screen time with the beautiful Kat Dennings except for the Thor films because they need to get rid of Darcy.

As silly as GOTG was..it was way more interesting than this.

Sometimes I feel I...am the strange one, on this planet.

hated GOTG, loved TTDW... no real question for me here.

This movie ultimately lands ahead of Guardians at the end of the day.

GOTG was an unexpected breath of fresh air from Marvel. I didn't think I'd care for it at all, but I thought it was wonderful. T:TDW had the exact opposite occur: I thought it looked great, but I was/am quite let down by most of this film. 5/10....at best.

GOTG was pleasantly different but still less than the sum of all the other Marvel efforts. Good but not great.

reply

GOTG falls below both of the Thor films.

The Guardians of the Galaxy entertained me more the first time I saw it, but Thor: The Dark World has held up better.

All four members of the royal family of Asgard (Odin, Frigga, Thor, and Loki) work in every scene. That is what keeps the second Thor movie fresh for me.

I agree with that notion. Thor The Dark World is way better on rewatch. GOTG is light on the action so once you know the story, it's not as good.

reply

The Force Awakens is good popcorn fun but nowhere near as good as Avengers. Not even close. So, the MCU is where this debate should stay.

I accept your surrender.

That is more true today. Rogue One was an average trailer. Dr. Strange was easily it's equal and that is c-list Marvel.

Civil War will be the undisputed champion of the year.
