The turtle from Antonio's flashbacks (and on tv) is not a marine turtle.

I noticed that too. I let it go because nearly all sea turtles are endangered so there's no way they were going to be able to use a live one. I'd rather them use something living as opposed to a crappy looking cgi. I'm also not sure the memory is authentic and the character may be filling in the gaps with what he can remember if animals before the climate changed.

no but then again they didn't show it in the water. Rivers flow into the ocean and I am sure there are species of freshwater turtles that show up occasionally on beaches. I'm not sure if they were trying to pass it off as a sea turtle or not.

Freshwater species sometimes get washed down to beaches. I have seen it happen to gators. Thank God this was just a turtle.

I see claws, not flippers, so I agree, its a land, not sea species.

It looks like a Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni) to me.

I believe the beach scenes in Automata were shot on the Black Sea cost of Bulgaria, habitat to several sea and land turtles and tortoises, including the Hermann's toutoise. They're common enough there that some tourism websites have called the coast "turtle-tastic", so it's possible they just used a turtle they caught on the set.
