Thin Blue Line

The stories aren't all that similar but the style is. Interview footage mixed with well done reenactments and excellent cinematography. Plus they're both very compelling and outrageous stories.

It's not a doc but the credulousness and Southern aspect really made me think of the film, Compliance, and the real life bizarre story that's based on

Good point, especially if the Compliance story was done as a documentary, I feel it'd be a lot like this.

the movie 'Bernie' starring Jack Black is not a doco, but has elements of a doco in that it is a true story and features real accounts from real people involved amongst the written/acted material.. worth a look
